Wow, for the first time in years, I like. The best lookin' circulating coin since the Mercury dime.

I agree 100%. I like this whole series so far. I think the minimalism and interesting perspective of the obverse really mimics Fraser's original Indian Head design, too. It's just different enough that it isn't a copy (like the SAE design), it's really more of an homage.

Kudos to the mint for finally making a seriously nice new coin.
  • When are those going to be released?

  • I think these are going to be highly sought after coins. I plan on buying many more that what I usually purchase.... Anyone know if the 2005 obverse will be the one the mint keeps for 2006 and future dates, or will it revert to the 1938-2004 obverse?

Not bad for a dead president. But it's still a dead president. I like the bison!

image Seems kind of bland to me? But then, what do I know. I'll probably order some anyway. They'll be "Hot" this being the only year of issue. Lee

Please excuss my ignorance but when did this all come about?
I never heard the Mint was changing the nickel. Is this for real?
Was it in the news or TV or what?
If this is for real, I'm for it all the way. I'll grab them by the roll right away.

The buffalo seems to be crouched down in an attack stance like a bull getting ready to charge but at the same time this makes him appear to be cowering down to fit the space on the nickel.

I don't know why but just looking at the semi profile keyhole shot of Jefferson makes me smile and I can't take it serious.

Thanks for the info on the new nickel. I saved it to my computer and will send to some of my friends that probalby won't believe me. I don't know how I missed this but might have seen it and just old age made me forget.

I personally think the both the obv and reverse lack the artistic flair that should coincide with a major design change.
That's the best Jefferson they could come up with ? However I think they will be very popular. The obvious wear spot on this coin will be the Bob Hope like nose.

It's better than the regular Monticello we've seen for decades, but it's still a president.

Now, am I the only one confused to death over the direction the buffalo is facing? image

Though I think the Sac dollars are a pretty nice design, too. Not that they actually circulate that much.

  • interesting design, can't say i'm crazy about the obverse. wonder if the mint has an off-center design for lincs, rosies, washington and the rest of the gang waiting in the wings. now *that* i could get behind, but only the jeff,...meh.

i have to wonder what catchy 'extra' designation will be sought after on the series,... MS69 FN (Full Nostril.) image

The buffalo looks a bit too scrawny to me. I love the idea of bringing the buffalo design back but I don't understand why the mint had to reinvent the wheel. IMO the original buffalo design is far superior. Why didn't they use it?
  • I'm surprised "In God We Trust" is still on the coin. Apparently, the Liberals haven't attacked our coinage and currency yet.

I can't wait until some error coins show up!!
