Firefox is highly customizable, with many "Extensions" and various "Themes" that can be added. Don't be afraid to add these; they're groovy(well, the groovy ones, at least )
Here's what I use, and highly recommend:
Theme:
Noia 2.0 (eXtreme)
Extensions:
Adblock
Download Manager Tweak
Forecast Fox
Define Word
Disable Targets For Downloads
downTHEMall!
Mouse Gestures
SpellBound (thanks to cosmic D for recommending this one!)
Yeah, and after a while the browser becomes slow, unstable and finally refuses to load anymore. That's what happened to me and that's why I reverted back to IE.
It's a nice browser, but the hype it gets is somewhat overblown, IMO.

The problem isn't the web browser (Firefox), it's the operating system (Windows). Used on a more secure and stable system (like SystemV based) such as Unix, Linux, BSD, Mach it can be up and running for months on end without any problems!
