As you may or may not know, I have only been taking coin pics for a couple of months. Whatcha think???
I know this is a piece of modern crap, but I think it turned out good! I have some more tweaking to do with my lights and I need a copy stand. Right now, I am using an $8.00 tabletop tripod that will hardly hold up my camera! LOL!
These pics are with NO color correction or sharpness correction - Basically no "photoshopping" has been done except reducing the res to a viewable size and cropping.
Thanks!
Stacy

stool-size table. It takes up alot less room than a copy stand. I have a little goose
neck lamp I picked up at Target for $8 with a 60 watt bulb. So far all my pictures
are only lit from one side Makes the luster look nice. Soon I will invest in another
lamp.

Sometimes I'll take 50 pictures of the same coin with varying lighting techniques. One of the quarter shots are with reflected light from a mirror! It disperses the light so it is direct light, indirectly! LOL

Your good photo work made me pull the trigger on a Nikon 5400. I am upgrading from a 4200 that I bought last year. Total price with shipping and after rebate was just a tad under $200. Thanks for the nice images
#2 - Thanks for all of your compliments! This time, I hooked the camera up to my tv, then adjusted the lights until I got the best looking coin. That helps tremendously!
#3 - Settings - Factory Preset! Since I just got the camera today, I didn't want to fiddle around with the settings. I wanted to see how it would shoot straight outta the box. I was very happy at the results!
#4 - I really like the 21 morgan too. I'll take a pic of the back soon and show you all. *cough* it is also for sale *cough* Let me warn you though, there are a lot of tiny carbon spots on it. They are just so small, that they look grayish brown in the pic. The carbonish spots kinda disappear when tilted. It looks like a lot of the tiny carbon spots flaked off, then toned a little underneath. Here is a closeup...
#5 - My set up... I got the best results with this setup...
Imagine the yellow dots are the center of where the lights are shining on your substrate. The Orange circles is basically where the lights disapate. The gray circle is... drum roll please.... THE COIN! LOL I tell ya, it looks like a kindergartener drew that silly pic! Plus, I am tired and I have no clue if I am making any sense! I have a nasty cold and my kids have it too. We are all drugged up on Nyquil... Well, I am anyway!
Thanks again!
Stacy
PS - I did not spell check this or any of my other posts. Plus, I didn't reread for gramatical errors. Sorry!
