GOETZ: K-16 Luitpold 90th Birthday

K-16 PRINCE RULER LUITPOLD OF BAVARIA, 1911, Cast AE, 91.6mm, 365.7g, VZ. RR.

To Commemorate his 90th birthday. Obverse: Portrait bust right. Reverse: March 12th, 1821-1911 with Stag.

I am not quite sure as to the significance of the floral decorations the stag has apparently caught up in his antlers. Perhaps Luitpold partied hardy at the celebration….

    "91.6mm" That's a super nice dinner plate!

The floral decorations were used due to a shortage of ribbons.image

The vegetation in the stag's antlers looks to me to be pine boughs and flowers. The pine is an evergreen and thus symbolizes of immortality while flowers suggest youth and vitality.

That's just my wild guess though....

I believe that this is my favorite of all the Goetz medals you've shown!

Both the portrait and the stag evoke strengh and are extremely well done + I love the style used in the text image
