Today's ebay Joke Of The Day!!

I got the following question from a potential bidder on this auction!

Dear ksteelheader,

PLEASE IS THE SET IN THE SCAN THE ONE THAT WILL BE SHIPPED. PLEASE DO YOU HAVE A PICTURE OF THE BACK OF THE COIN YOU COULD E-MAIL ME. THANKS

My answer was as follows:

The set pictured is the one you are bidding on!
The reverse picture is in the auction!

I then proceeded to block this bidder!

  • Come on! With so many scammers and switcheroos on flea-bay, you have to give the guy a break! He was just double checking, always a good idea. Blocking him seems a bit extreme.

I don't understand why you blocked him either.

  • I blocked him to simply avoid any problems at all. I feel that if the guy missed two important things about the item in a very simple auction layout, then I don't want to deal with anymore potential oversights!
  • It sure is well within your rights to block him, but was his question that far out of line?

Did you look at my auction??
  • image I'm wondering if sometimes these people asking questions are trying to get e-mail addresses for the purpose of spamming. I just got 114 e-mails this morning that Hotmail diverted to trash before I could see them.

This is immediately after responding back by regular e-mail to a bogus seller in Italy, France, UK or wherever on a recent fraud thread.

No bidder, the seller must be a scumbag!!!

Do you think the person may have just wanted a better picture of the Kennedy half reverse. Though you do show a picture of the reverse, it is kinda small, and it does look like the frost is kinda weak near the tail feathers in your pic. Perhaps they just wanted a better pic of it to assure them that it actually is a DCAM as you have listed. Just a thought.

Hell if you want to avoid problems on ebay, don't list any auctions at all.

Remind me not to bid on your auction, you see I don't like problems either and blocking someone for
    asking a question.....well datz a problem.

  • I did see the auction, why would I make a comment without doing so. Your tone is very defensive, if not hostile. I guess my question would be this, if it's such a nice DCAM, why you moving it? I understand that there are many scammers out there, and people looking for email addresses, but isnt it the case that you can respond to questions through the Ebay system without disclosing your email address? Seems like he's asking a simple question. But again, you are well within your rights to block him.
  • I've got to admit that I dont understand the logic of blocking him. If you receive what you believe to be an idiotic question, just dont reply.
  • Is there a way to "un block" him? The pictures could be better too. I think the question was ligit however you never know what kind of schmoes you're dealing with on sleeze bay buyers and sellers alike.

Hostile? Geez, I thought this was easy to see. I'm selling because it would not go PR69DCAM which would be the only grade worth recieving in this year.

And, where did I say anything about scammers? I was merely pointing out that some people can't even see the obvious when it's staring them in the face.

My auction is very simplistic. It states:

    1969 Proof Set

Up for bid is this 1969 Proof Set.This is a highly sought set. It would make a nice addition to any set!! Proof Sets are going up in price weekly. Get yours now before the price increases even more. The set pictured is the one you are bidding on!

Note that the Kennedy is Dcam

And, shows a nice picture of both obverse and reverse.

The guy obviously didn't or couldn't read.
  • Ken what some of us are trying to say is, that perhaps he just wanted a better picture of the reverse of the half. Though you do have a picture listed it is hard to tell from it that it is a DCAM (In my opinion anyways)

What is he/she suppose to do, just take you word that it is a DCAM because you have listed as such. I would take you your would on it, just because I know you from the boards, and if I had a problem, I know that you would make it right. However if it was from someone that I did not know, and I collected Proof moderns, I would of asked the same question.

I don't know Ken perhaps you did him a favor by blocking him.

  • I thought it over and went to unblock the guy. While I was unblocking I did a quick review of those I've already got blocked, and his ID was already blocked. All of my blocks are people that were mentioned on this forum at one time or another as troublesome persons. I did a search for the ID here but came up with nothing.

    hey Ben

it does seem that blocking this guy was a sort of knee-jerk overreaction. judging just from the questions, i'd almost bet that the questioner never scrolled down past what showed when the listing page loaded, so all he saw was the picture at the top of the page, he was interested and wanted to make sure it wasn't a stock photo. i personally think that the Ask seller a question feature eBay offers is under utilized.

i recently listed some items and, as always, i added my shipping costs to the item description. one bidder e-mailed to inquire about shipping cost, having probably not read the description as i often fail to do. i returned his message with the shipping cost and a reminder that that information was in the description. he now owns the item in a no hassle transaction.

patience brother, patience. now go swill another cold one and unblock that guy, he's learned his lesson!!image

Geez, usually those are the kinds of guys I WANT bidding on my auctions -- interested, sounds honest, might bid the price up a bit . . .
    Doug
  • Again, I think you are well within your rights to block anyone you want. My only point is that I don't see making a major production over it. Maybe he didn't read far enough or maybe he's new to the whole thing. Not eveyone is a scammer.......maybe someone who simply isn't as experienced as you.

    wow
someone didn't get any last night
  • (I've look at the auction)

Does ebay have a limit to the size of picture? If not, then this raises the question of why not add nice big pictures? The coins will sell themselves if the pics are nice big so you can see the details of the coins. Perhaps he was wanting close-ups?

Before you blocked the bidder did you check his feedback? Was it good or bad?

Ken: UH, is the picture of the actual set I would be receiving? (just kidding) heh hehimage
