Exactly what I was thinking. Instead of the estate sale scam, we have the divorce sale scam. Probably really some lowlife coin dealer with a new twist.
For someone who claims to know nothing about coins, she sure has improved her photography skills. Notice how her ex first was just her "ex" in previous auctions, now, months later he is her "idiot ex".
I seem to remember a thread from months ago that linked to ebay listings by an ex wife of her ex husband's coins. The thing that got my attention last time was a statement in the description of the coin(s) by the ex wife that "no one should attempt to contact her for a date" [From my male perspective "Duhhhhhhhhhhhhhh"].
If the seller in the prior thread is the seller in this current thread are the same, it appears that her anger has dissipated to the point where she does not up front discourage potential suitors.
For all heterosexual unattached male forumites, this could be your big chance to find some companionship and look at some coins. Hummmmm, think of the possibilities...................:
a. the coins are lousy, she is great and together you smash the coins to pieces with a sledge hammer;
b. the coins are great, she is lousy, you verbally trash the coins and then buy them from her at a price that would be a RIP
c. you feel sorry for the ex husband [maybe you are divorced], pick up the coins on the cheap and sell them back to him at your cost

The divorce sale scam has been running on Ebay for years under sportscards - "Selling my Husband's Collection". Run away!!
I read that there are 3 reasons for disposing of a fine art collection. Perhaps these pertain to disposing of a coin collection? They are the 3 Ds: death, divorce and debt...
I don't think it's a scam, but unusual marketing. I don't think there's any idiot ex or a know-nothing seller. Just a dealer trying a different tactic.
Otherwise, how would someone who knows nothing about coins be lucky enough to have picked the single best coin in the bunch to make a featured auction?
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
<< <i>If it is a real divorce sale the wife got screwed. The "appraisals" overgraded the coins, and hence overvalued them. >>
Only if the bidders catch it. >>
That has nothing to do with it. When the pie is being split, if the wife's part of the pie is overvalued, and the husband's part is fairly valued, then the wife is getting screwed on value. Of course, the wife may have gotten 90% of everything, so I may not matter than much!!
I'm infering that you're improperly infering that I think well of either party. I wouldnt bid simply because the auction has such a negative feel to it. I chose not to reward such negativity with my buisness. What did or didnt happen between the two was not the focus of my statement.
I could (improperly) infer that you're statement was sexually bias... maybe she beat him down.... infernce has it's share of problems. I'm not trying to "pick a fight." I'm just clarifing my "principal" possition and and pointing the falicy of inference.

Ok, ok, I see your point. I thought you were bringing up some sort of "brotherhood" of coin collectors. I stand corrected.
Now that I think about it a little bit, this whole Internet forum "thingy" is based on conjecture and speculation about the intent of a post. I can't shake your hand and look you in the eye, now can I?

I didn't even know my wife was mad at me!! Come to think of it I haven't seen her around since I joined the forum here!!
That may explain why my camera is missing and the mailman hasn't been making any deliveries lately!!

There, I fixed her!!
