Tried to search the forums for this but no luck.

I've seen coins graded MS-70, PR-66, PR-70, etc and am wondering why these grades
are not listed in the Red Book. Reason is, I keep seeing these odd grades on coins offered
for sale.

Thanks

Up around those grades prices change frequently, also just to save room. Redbook really just gives you a ballpark price. You need a current grey sheet to tell you what pieces are truly going for.
  • Remember that the Red Book is just general info, and just going to ms65 is a long used and antiquated format in it. Precise grades such as those are given by the slabbing/grading companies. Many here wonder how soon grades like ms65.5 will occur.

I can't tell you why the values aren't listed in the Red Book, but if you're looking for values, IMO, the best way to do so is to check completed auction history (ebay, teletrade, heritage, etc.)

The Red Book can't list every coin in every grade because it would take up too much room.

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

That wouldn't work either. Greysheet doesn't list anything above MS67.

This link shows the grades PCGS gives out if you are looking for a definition of what the grades mean. Link
Give Blood (Red Bags) & Platelets (Yellow Bags)!
  • Great info. Thanks!

Blue sheet goes to MS67, Greysheet only goes to 65, and also a lot of strike designators (Only FB for Mercs) are listed in the greysheet... Recent completed EBay and Teletrade auctions are almost always the best indicator for current prices...

Actually, it goes to MS67 for some coins.
