It might be better to rephrase the question to "Is it real?". As written, it is somewhat ambiguous. image

    I voted real (yes).

I go with a big N/G on that coin.
Some coins are just plain "Interesting"

I'm not sure, but I think the hair has had some tooling work done.

I voted yes, but there's something slightly "off" to my eye... I can't quite figure out what.

looks funny to me...can't really put my finger on the reason why it looks funny to me...i don't have anything against flowing hair coinage other than being too much $ for me...what is that beglobbida in the eagle's left wing close to the breast...is that normally seen on these?

  • It's a half dollar and has some porosity that concerns me.

1798 Dollar has a beglobbida above the 9...looks funny to me too....

Did they typically have nice strikes such as that one?

"Did they typically have nice strikes such as that one? "

Good question. The strike does appear to be exceptional but I don't know if this is unusual for these.

  • Can't update the question for some reason BUT

Is it real (YES)? or not (NO)?

    Hope this helps...
  • The eagle's head seems not quite right to me. I voted not real.

I too think something doesn't seem right. Maybe it is the crispness of the lettering and stars. They are worn too evenly to seem authentic especially on the reverse. Seems the wear should be less even like on the right side of the rim on the obverse.image

spent a few minutes on ebay...there are 13 1795 halves currently for sale...found one with a beglobbida in the same place on reverse as this one has...the pics are pretty good from all the sellers of these...

On this one I can't vote yes and I can't vote no...I agree with Russ that some tooling appears to have been done to sharpen Liberty's hair...

  • I'm not entirely sure.....but I voted no. It's either counterfeit or it's been worked on.

Taking a scientific approach, I searched Overton. Look like O-105 to me....or copied from an O-105.

Obverse: Lower curl embedded in first star.
Reverse: "A small defect line joins ribbon knot to rock above...."

  • I'd vote for authentic, but something is not right with the date......

  • I voted no, the head on the coin seems to be a bit lower then it is supposed to be, hair is going into the star on left side, and the neck of liberty is to the right of the star to the right of the date instead of being to the left of it.
The head of the bird also looks a bit off.
