Thanks for the comments - I agree that the cameo picture is the best and is the most like the coin in hand but I am amazed at the difference just a lighting adjustment can make.
On the Cameo views I used two side lights and camera directly above - on the others I used two lights - higher above then the first ones but off to the sides and a white piece of paper as a reflector directly above the camera and coin.
I have been experimenting with lighting. I am finding it very difficult to get quality pictures of my Romans, the camera is up to the task but my skill level leaves alot to be desired.
I have a friend downloading all my recent pictures to a CD, I'll be listing in the next couple of days. My old 'puter needs a memory upgrade to be able to run the picture editing program for my camera so I am waiting on the mail once again, 256KB more memory on the way.
The first photo is more "dramatic" with that lighting effect.
