I prefer the first lighting method ... nice cameo effect.

Yup. Both versions are nice, but the first pic shows off the cameo very nicely.

Thanks for the comments - I agree that the cameo picture is the best and is the most like the coin in hand but I am amazed at the difference just a lighting adjustment can make.

What was the difference in the lighting, Shep?

  • What was the difference in the lighting, Shep?

On the Cameo views I used two side lights and camera directly above - on the others I used two lights - higher above then the first ones but off to the sides and a white piece of paper as a reflector directly above the camera and coin.

  • I have been experimenting with lighting. I am finding it very difficult to get quality pictures of my Romans, the camera is up to the task but my skill level leaves alot to be desired.

I have a friend downloading all my recent pictures to a CD, I'll be listing in the next couple of days. My old 'puter needs a memory upgrade to be able to run the picture editing program for my camera so I am waiting on the mail once again, 256KB more memory on the way.

The first photo is more "dramatic" with that lighting effect.
