Is this real? Looks kind of crude, but interesting. This seller has a LOAD of nice coins going off this week.![image](https://us.v-cdn.net/6027503/uploads/expressions/face-icon-small-smile.gif)

What do people think about the denticles and the "mei" in "meiji?"

Actually, that "vertically squished" "mei" counts in favor of genuineness. The drawings in the JNDA catalog (p.7, coins 01-5 and 01-5A) show the same thing on the 1871 coin, and a more normal character on the slightly smaller 1874-80 coins.
After reviewing this feedback I may consider bidding myself.

Neither those marks nor the apparently doubled denticles on the left, and badly worn(?) denticles on the right were apparent to me on the small pictures. (I still get nothing when I click to enlarge them.)
Neither Japanese Coinage by Jacobe & Vermuele, nor Modern Japanese Coinage by Cummings, has anything useful to say about those issues. Sure wish I could see the actual coin before putting any bucks at risk.
