What modern coins do you feel have future value??

Out of coins made in the last 50 years, what do you feel has the best shot of becoming the most desired in 50-100 years from now?

WHat specific type of coin? Varieties? Etc?

The Accented Hair Kennedy in high grade deep cameo, of course.

As a general rule, I think the 69 deep cameo in any series will be sought out by collectors. Coins with silver content will also be appreciated. The slabs we have today will help protect the coins in ways that weren't possible 50 years ago. "Value" ,or prices, will still be defined using supply and demand as the measure.

The 55 DD cent a proven winner already. Other stuff will have value but nothing has been proven yet. Time will tell on the "Hot Stuff" in this market now.

As far as Russ's nomination (1964 DCAM AH Kennedy half) goes, I tend to agree (which, with $1.00 will buy you a cup of coffee).

My problem is that no matter how hard I look for this coin (single or in proof sets) at shows and in shops, I can never find one. I have found two non AH 1964 Kennedies that could possibly DCAM, but just can not find a a DCAM. It is just not fair (I sound like my 13 year old who says it is not "fair" that he does not have an X-Box and HeloII, but in my case it is true, it really is not fair).

Give them a century or two and every current modern probably has good upside appreciation potential.
    When in doubt, don't.

1955 double dies will continue to go up, I think. Compare the estimated mintage of 5000 to 20000 pieces and compare it to the prices on a 1909-S VDB with 400,000+ minted.

  • I think hobo nickels have a great future... As a hobo nickel carver i,ve seen prices go from the $10 to $100 range ten years ago when i first started carving hobo nickels, to coins carved the last few years selling for $3,000 plus...as modern carvers quit carving, pass away, etc. their carvings go up...i,m not at liberty to name collectors who i,ve carved commisioned carvings for , but some are authors of coin books and are known world wide..The carvings [ hobo nickels ] that i think have a great future are not the $5 to $10 mass produced crude carvings, but the fine detailed ones...........Hobo nickel carver Billzach

Any scarce or rare modern has an excellent chance to be worth much more in the future.

This may or may not apply to any specific coin since some already have appreciated sub-
stantially and further gains may well be impossible in the near future. There are numerous
coins though which are dramatically underappreciated simply because most collectors shun
all these coins as a matter of habit. Many of the mint state coins simply were not saved and
are not available if collectors began assembling sets of the coins. There are many varieties
of these which are poorly reported or known only to specialists. Since there are substantial
numbers of the folders and albums being sold in the last couple years it seems likely that as
interest increases and people gain knowledge about these coins that there will necessarily
be increased demand and prices as the years go by.
    Tempus fugit.
