I don't like it either. I don't know who graded it, but I disagree with the grade.

  • To understand, just read his philosophy

<< <i>To factors which determine the technical grade of the coin, we add the overall appearance or desirability of the piece within the assigned grade. The overall appearance -- or eye appeal -- is what makes the final determination in whether you love a piece, find it so-so, or unappealing for the grade. >>

<< <i>I have trained my 'eye' to this all-important characteristic over the years >>

  • Anybody think it's a nice high-end MS-64? In MHO it's not, even though it's sort of lusterous.

I bet the coin is a screamer in person. Really looks ok for a high relief Peace but that canyon in the left obv. field is distracting.

Can't grade this date the same as the rest of the series.

Looking to rationalize the assigned grade is all.

MS 65 does seem a little high even for the 1921.

I recently sold a PCGS MS64 and it was head and shoulders above this one.

The reverse, which is normally weak, of this coin is far better then any PCGS MS64 that I have in my collection.

First of all, it is an NGC coin. What do you expect image
Steve put it as EA-8. To me, it means below average. Look at Steve's web-site, 90+% coins are EA-9 or EA-10.
For the price, in this hot market, you simply can't predict any image

I agree with GAT, the reverse is so well struck that it makes up for the other side, kind of like women sometimes------------------BigE

I have an NGC 1921 MS64 that is similar strike wise, without the grand canyon.
I've been afraid to try to cross it because of the weak strike (IMO).
Maybe after seeing this dog I should try!image

Here's mine....looks better in hand, but picture made me notice a spot on the rev. between the I & B in "PLURIBUS", PVC?image

No, this is the worst looking "MS65" peace dollar I've Ever seen.

I'll add a thread a little later tonight and tell you folks about myself. I've lurked here for a few days and think i'll stick around.
  • Now the Ajia '21 IS a REAL "high end" 64!! I don't think the strike's bad at all either. I'd try for a 65 again, if the obv. left field is clean (can't tell from pict.s) and luster is as nice as it seems. Nice one!image

  • Well,

I do like the strike but that mark in the obv. field and that funny thing going on above her ear are hard to overcome.

Do I see wear on the eagle, or is it just the pic?

  • Mistakes happen, I think the Estes coin has found a permanent home in that holder.

Ajia's coin has nice luster and no distracting marks. From the picture it looks like a little dip residue/PVC in the head dress and the aforementioned spot on the reverse. I really like his coin.

The Numistrust coin. Is it overgraded by 10 points or 20? I like the look of it, just not the assigned grade.

  • Here's my PCGS 65.

With the surface strikes in front of Libertys' nose and what ever is hapening in the hair line just above her neck I would say steveestes Peace dollar would grade a 63 maybe 64 at PCGS.
