new 2005 coins from the Royal Canadian Mint - PHOTOS ON PAGE 2!

These are some of the 2005 coins released by the RCM that I especially like:

2005 Proof Silver Dollar - 40th Anniversary of Canada's national flag

Here's the glad with gold plating

This is the 2005 22-Karat Gold Coin - Historical Commerce - Fur traders

2005 Pure Gold Coin - Western Red Lily...way beyond my budget, but very pretty! image

Last but not least my favorite, 2005 Specimen Set - Tufted Puffin I am wild about
puffins! I have the 1999 Newfoundland coin with a puffin, and I'm determined to get this set, which includes the puffin. Way to go, RCM!!

I really don't like this new portrait of the queen. She looks like someone's grandmother from the animated TV show King of the Hill.
  • If I divulged my true feelings about a lot of the RCM's products I could be banned image

  • I realize some are very expensive, but they are nice to look at online.

I've expressed my views before on the latest Queen's portrait - - looks like an elderly charwoman. Not regal in the least! Oh well... what are you going to do?

I think it would be neat for a year or two to replace the loon on the circulating dollar coin with the puffins - - would be a nice switch! Anyone know if they plan on making a circulating Puffin?

  • I got the 2nd of the butterfly series today - the Clouded Sulphur and I don't care if anyone likes it. so there. image

  • Luvdawgs - my wife likes puffins too. They are truely comical birds and rather shy as well. They are all over the place here on Kodiak, and they have a tendancy to dive under the water when you cruise near them, rather than flying away.

As for the new coins, they don't grab me at all. This is a set I think I'll pass on.

  • Auld Fartte, yes I have the puffin and half puffin from Lundy - very nice coins!

DSBTrader, according to the booklet I received from the RCM, the puffin coin is only going to be available with the 2005 Specimen Set.

Gene, you can usually buy all of the current RCM products from www.gatewestcoin.com or from
    www.colonialacres.com/home.shtml

Neptune, the butterfly coin is very pretty image

Puddle Pirate, I went to visit the puffins once on Machias Seal Island, which is between Maine and New Brunswick, Canada. We watched
them from a blind, and I have some upclose pictures that we took. They came within inches of us. They are adorable little birds! image

I like the dollar and CD-ROM set as another quirky RCM packaging project.

How many of them would you like me to post, Dave? I've gone through all my photos and taken them all out, and have them right here in front of me. If
you'd really like to see them, I have all weekend and would be happy to scan them image

    Susan:

Please just post a few which you find the most intriguing, cute, unusual, etc- - I'm sure they'd be neat!

    Thanks!

  • In looking through my photos, I noticed I didn't have any showing how the puffins hunch over and scuttle run by, looking like little old men. I'll
have to make sure to get those photos next time. HERE'S A URL with some information
about the island we took these pictures on, and some more puffin photos. Also some photos of some of the other birds on the island.

Here are a few of the puffin photos we took on Machias Seal Island, behind the blind, very close to the birds. A few of them were walking
across the roof of the blind and we could hear their little feet pattering image
