Try this page from Chris McCawley

Edited to add that his S-38 is a VG-10 not the requested 8. Also keep in mind that Chris grades the coin, not the market for the coin.
Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.
  • Thank you very much guys. I don't know nothing about early coppers and I needed some images to figure out what this coin would grade.

Now I have one more question.

As a Collector what would you pay for a G-4 1794 Head of 1794 Sheldon -38?

As a Collector what would you pay for a VG-8 1794 Head of 1794 Sheldon -38?

I might get be able to get a pic of this coin. Stay Tuned.

If you are certain that it is a S-38 it is worth every bit of a 300% premium over a common die variety for the year. For a solid VG-8 expect to pay in the neighborhood of $1600 to $1800 retail.

  • Agreed, and in a solid Good S-38 lists for $800.

Tere are four other "Marred field" varieties, S-30, 31, 39, and 40. S-30 and 31 are considerably more common with solid VG's listing at $350. S-40 is about the same as S-38. S-39 is notably rarer with a VG listed at $4,000.

They aren't low grade but CoinFacts has pictures of all of them.

  • OK, here we go. I said sheldon- 38 Because I took a guess. Like I said Above, I have no idea about early coppers.

Cool thing is I was able to get pictures.....They kinda crappy but it was the best I could do and I hope ya'll can work from them.

I like this copper coin, but dunno anything about them and Probably find a better one IF I was going to spend the money to buy one. What I would like to have is the "Apple cheeks" which I think is the sheldon-23.

Which variety is this one? I know the images suck, but can you tell which this is and any other details about this coin.

  • Don't know what it IS yet, but it ISN'T an S-38. S-38 and 39 have a single berry to the left of the ribbon bow.

Well I could probably do better if I had the coin in hand (The pictures leave something to be desired.) but at the monent I'm leaning toward S-59. I don't like the second T in STATES though. I may work on it a little more later.
  • I just went through all the sheldon numbers and I think the one that fits this coin best is the Sheldon-59. The berries relative to the bow match very close.

Sorry, I dunno the Sheldon number, and it's...uh...rather well-ventilated. image

(I think it's a little better than VG, though.)
