What non US coin do i have here

one side has a wreth like the old one cent coins. with 20 in the middle. on the other side says"con feratio( the "e" looks like like a oe(or an e wiht a )e type thing.) Helvetica and dated 1977. nice liberty head like the old v backs and says LIBERTAS. i kinda like this coin and want to get more like it . it makes me feel like im collecting modern day V back nickels with the design.

im thinking 20 lira but i could be wrong

I sounds like you have a Swiss 20 rappen. The 1977 had a mintage of 14,012,000 (by US standards it's "rare"). If you think US designs are tired, this one's been in use since 1881!

Shiroh and Dorkgirl nailed it. "Helvetica"= Switzerland. "Confoederatio Helvetica" means the Swiss Confederation. Since 1850, Switzerland has been a united confederation of states, sort of like this country. Before that, coins were issued by the individual states, which are called "cantons".

It's one of the longest-running coin designs in the world. I just started a Swiss type set. I have a bunch of extra 5-rappen and maybe 10-rappen with the same design. PM me your address and I'll send you some.

Just like you, I was always reminded of the V-nickels by those. Of course, they came out around the same time as the V-nickel, but had a much, much longer run.
