In general, I believe that we have reached the high point a few months ago.

The market will pause and catch its breath untill the summer. While there

might be a softening of average looking coins and some moderns, I believe that

the spectacular grade, nice looking and beautiful toned coins will hold on to their value

fairly well. Usually, the coin market goes in the opposite direction from the stock market.

    Time will tell.

We've seen a lot of collections come to market over the past 18 months. The market is digesting them at a healty clip and at healthy prices. I thought the volume of coins at FUN auctions might be an indicator of something, and yet many coins did well. I think the market is very healthy. I suspect LB will be a solid show.

I do believe that GREAT coins should receive a bit more hype than they are getting from the auction houses. Right now, the auction companies are making so much dough that they don't even care about the significance of any coin. To them, they are all widgets. There was some junk in Platinum night along with some gorgeous coins. The stuff that sold late in the evening could have brought higher prices if scheduled differently. That mistake WILL NOT happen to me when I sell. I will demand prime time!

That's one disadvantage of collecting gold. It tends to always be placed at the back of the catalogs. The minor coins and small silver always go first. A slight advantage.

    RR,
Shouldn't that be a minor advantage? image
