The George II Sixpence Collection

With all the recent Conder threads, and everyone suffering from copper poisoning, the counter revolution begins, or rather continues. Well as some may know, sixpences are my thing and well i enjoy spreading that sixpency goodness wherever i go.

Now although i'm working on the Charles II set primarily, i have a whole plethora of George II ones that i picked up, and this series is probably my second fave, after the William and Mary issue.

I prefer the young head myself, but i also buy the old head specimens too.

The full set (minus errors and proofs) consists of

Young head issue 1728-41
1728 plain, 1728P (plumes), 1728RP (roses and plumes), 1732RP, 1734RP, 1735RP, 1735/4RP, 1736RP, 1739R (roses) and 1741R.

Old head issue 1743-1758
1743R, 1745R, 1745/3R, 1745 Lima, 1746 Lima, 1750, 1751, 1757, 1758 and 1758/7

Forgive the long load of pictures, but i don't think i've ever actually shown the whole lot of, usually i just show a select few off, only about 4 of them usually see the light of day.

1728 plain (this is a scarce one)

1728P (I love the provenance mark issues, and this series is full of them, i've yet to actually look to see if the nose really is doubled like that, hope not).

1728RP

1732RP

1735RP (Key date, looking at the state of this one...)

1739R (This one's my favourite)

1741R

1745/3R

1746 Lima (Lima is on the obverse below the bust)

and 1750

I also have a 1757 and a 1758, but i don't know where i put the scans, but they look identical to the 1750 in design, but the tone is slightly lighter, only slightly too.

Copper poisoning is a good thing. A little silver every now and then does not hurt either. Nice group of George II 6Ps image

  • Gold is something i have precious little of these days, sadly.

But i've owned a fair few over the past 4 years. Half guineas, half sovereigns, sovereigns, quarter noble, quarter laurel and the noble.

Of all of them i miss my James II half guinea the most, it was the only coin i ever regret selling. 1688 and a spot on Fine.
