I collect the elements on the periodic table, and some coins. I have a complete Roosevelt set, and am putting together a set of coins from 1880.

I do not care for Ikes. Russ happens to have one for sale on ebay (1976 toner) that I really DO like. There are exceptions to every rule.

Actually, THAT I wouldn't mind. I've never dug a dollar coin. A buddy of mine dug a Bicentennial Ike and an SBA. But of course they come outta the ground all funky-reddish-brown, like clad coins do.

LM..If memory serves me, this is the way you were introduced to Ikes by your grandpa...Correct?image The sandbox thing?

Oh yeah...I too, have just begun to groove on my Ikes that have been stored in my closet for the longest time.image

Wait till you all see the MS Ike Rainbow Moose (raw) I bought at FUN. After I get it made across the street - I will have it pictured and share!

  • I have about 6-7 circulated Ikes. I keep one of them in my Wallet as a Coin Toss coin.

    I have a pair of '76 Ikes, both Type 1 and Type 1...about AU/MS60.

I'm trying to score a PR69DCAM Ike on ebay, since they are so cheap right now. After that, i'll be done with Ikes

RF, how very perceptive of you. Shame on me for forgetting about one of my own tales (which was quite true, actually).

I guess I have to raise my hand after all. image

  • Not my favorite US coin but he beats the crap out of the SBA's which I personally consider the ugliest US coin ever made.

The prices for them seem to be real flexible, but it's hard to find a nice one (with eye appeal)... but then again, the search is half the fun!

If Ikes were 90% silver, I'd like them more. I have roughly 50 Brown Box / Blue Envelope Ikes I picked up as a lot a couple years ago that are sitting in a box somewhere, maybe someday they'll be worth something.... image
  • I don't... though, I can certainly appreciate the toughness of making an MS67 Ike!!!!

Brian Vaile (gandyjai) who's an avid Ike collector, said that he had found almost nothing at FUN... they aren't popular enough for dealers to carry them to the big shows... it seems that 'Registry' coins, coins where their demand is driven by the Registry, is mostly an Internet/EBay business... not many dealers seemed to be carrying exclusive moderns...

And if Ikes had Ms. Liberty on the obverse with a Heraldic Eagle on the reverse, I'd like them more.
