Greetings,
I've been watching you guys from afar and find you a VERY knowledgeable group. I thought I'd make my first venture into this forum with a question. I too watch the Coin Vault, Coin Country USA and the Live "auction" eBay has on TV. Of the 3, in my opinion, the eBay auction comes the closest to offer what I would call a "good deal" with their coins. I definitely share you guy's opinion of the huckster on Coin Country USA. The other night however, they were offering 2005 Silver Libertys for $17 each/20 for $275. The only difference it appeared between theirs and the $28.95 Libs I bought from the US mint were their holders. Knowing that everything else is always way too high priced with these folks, I instantly didn't trust them. Did I miss out on a deal, or are the ones in the US Mint's holder making a difference between mine an Coin Country's? Thanks guys.

Regarding the offering of the Silver Eagles...were the ones being offered on Coin Country USA the uncirculated ones or the proof coins?
The ones you buy from the mint are proof only. The uncirculated Eagles are put out into the market through major distributors.
If you go into a coin shop, you can usually pick up an uncirculated Silver Eagle for the current year (and most others too) for about $10 each if you are buying a single. If you buy in bulk, you can get better deals.
If you live in Pittsburgh, there's a small show this weekend at Futules Harmar House in Cheswick on Rt. 28. You ought to stop by and check some coins out for yourself to compare to what you are seeing on TV. The Saturday hours are 10-3 for sure. Sunday is probably the same hours but I can't swear to it. It's a nice show and there will be a great mix of coins in all price ranges. The show is sponsored by the West Penn Coin Club and you could get info on the club itself if you wish.
If you come to the show Saturday morning look for me and introduce yourself! I'll have a black backpack, and a white baseball hat with the CU logo (as shown in the upper left corner of this page) and my board handle on it.
I think aRabidChipmunk was right. What you bought from the mint were Proof Silver Eagles. What you saw on TV for $17 were Uncirculated ones that you could get at a coin show for probably under $10. Two different coins.
New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
