All three from the same batch.
Scan don't look as good as in person,
But they give you an idea.

I cant say I am really excited with the colors.

They sorta looked like the coins had gone thrue

    the wash cycle with clorox.

Bear, why be so rude with someone trying to share? Not everybody has the ability or the expertise to get some of the great images that we often see. Or to buy the multi-thousand dollar coins. Be nice as you usually are.
I'll bet those colors look decent in person.

  • They appear to be mint set toned. Colors probably washed out by the scan, and look better in person.

one of these days I'm gonna get a good pic of a good
coin, just one of these days and you'll all see.
No offence taken, they do look better in person
and I guess I thought the pics looked Ok
    But hey live and learn
  • Don't feel bad. Toning is very hard to photograph.
  • Nice coins either way. I know what you mean - It's irritating to try to capture the beauty of coins - just like crystals ....... it doesn't work unless you have lots of practice and/or perfect equipment. My digital or scanner neither one picks up colors as pretty as in person. image

I still use a scanner. And while I can't capture luster, I can pretty much nail what the coin looks like and it's colors.
When I view a scan, I can pretty much tell what it will look like in person. Heck, I remember a couple years ago on the board most people were showing scans.

I will continue to use my scanner as I don't want to take all the time to now learn a camera. It takes a lot of practice with a scanner though.
You might try propping the coin up on something. I use a paint stir stick broken in a small piece. If that's not enough, try two of them taped together, and you might need to try different angles and different sides. Hope this helps.

  • Geez - this is the second time this week Karl has been agreeable Smitty - you'd better take your quarters and run! image

Actually they probably do look very nice in hand - they may have come from mint sets of that year.

Yes, My Images are typically scans, and they certainly do no justice to my coins.
A lot of 56 mint sets get splotchy brownish orange toning. Those Quarters look like they could be well above average for mint set pieces.

I own a few toners. Scans are very hard to capture true colors.

I'll bet they look great in hand.

    Congrats.

  • All three look pretty good for the 1956 date and I'm sure the colors are more vibrant in hand. Don't worry about Bear. There's a rumor going around that his wife has put him on a diet and cut his daily dose of jelly donuts in half. I suspect he will be a little more irritable than usual in the coming weeks.image
