    Congrats!!

Are they in the original packaging, certified, albums, Capitol Holders?????

    Tell us more! image

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

  • they are all in original packaging except the 50, 51, 52, 53, and the 54. those are in capital holders. tried to find those in the original package, but settled for these. I hope the cable for the camera gets here soon so i can post some pics of a few of the coins in the 50`s.

there are a few with some light toning, and one dime that is almost completely blue.image

    Congrats-

I still need the 50, 51 and 52. Been trying for original packaging for them, not easy or cheap, going for way over ASK!

I've got 53 and 54 in box, with 2 * '55 in flats (One of them is missing the mint seal/emblem)

Congratulations on your 1950 - present proof set collection. Now you can pick up new sets from the mont each year and work backwards to get the 1936-1942 sets. After that, if you still have the motivation you can go back and try to get even earlier sets.

A couple of years ago I had a complete set from 1950 to 2002. However, I needed to raise cash and sold off the 1971 through 2002 sets. Now I concentrate on upgrading my 1950-1970 sets with cameo and deep camoe examples of all coins. Quite an undertaking and it is a work in progress. I also am considering picking up sets for 1936 - 1942.

  • The older sets, 36 thru 42, i figure i`ll pick them up certified. I`m not really worried about high grades there, just original coins.

Those will have to wait awhile though. when you start talking anything over a grand my wife thinks i ought to match the amount and give it to her for her own use. hmmm wonder what individual coins would run me?image

  • Congratulations! My wife only has two more sets than you. She also has the '42 and '41. That is a lot of proof coins!

    Big congrats from here image

I finished the same thing last spring and felt great about it. I managed to pick up a very nice 1950 set with a Blue Frankie along the way, so I've got two of those sets.

Now I'm into the '36-'42 era and it does get mighty steep. I've found that the best route there seems to be going with individual certified coins. At a show last fall I looked at a '39 set in original packaging, had a pretty purple tinted Merc in it. The sticker shock was just too much for me though. image

  • I bought a 1960 for $10 and it ended up being the small mm set, so i have both 60`s now. and i bought a 81 for $12 off Ebay and when i got it, it was the clear s variety. those are the two best buys i got putting this set together.image

Congrats on the proof set collection!! How do you store all of them, and do you ever have to replace/upgrade certain sets because of any hazing/turning that happens to some individual coins?
My style is impetuous, my defense is impregnable !
  • I have a safe with a dehumidifier to store them in. So far i`ve not seen any change in the coins. I hope they stay just as i purchased them. well.. if they want to do some cool toning, that would be alright.image

You mentioned you got some of the varieties by accident, Would you have gone after them on purpose?
do you (Or others here) count the varieties (Large date, no "S" Etc.) in your Complete run?

I just Picked up a nice '52 in the box, an am kicking myself for passing a a nicer '50 in the box (only slightly over ask).
