What coin auction terms make you immediately hit the back button?

With the discussion of the anti-snipe software, I was thinking maybe a related topic would be what terms in a coin auction would make you not bid and look elsewhere? For me, and this is a pet peeve, it is:

I have a life. Ebay is not my life. I mail coins once a week on Mondays.

(This was the actual text in an auction I passed on last week)

If I see the name "ERNIE" anywhere on an EBAY auction I promptly hit the back button.

  • i actually like the power sellers who just happened to pick up the INCREDIBLE hoard and is offering it to US the public for less than melt- becuase it's a travesty to throw good money away.

And then show pics of a setup lot- the ms66 coins seem to always be in the same pile but all different piles.

  • "Paypal Only"

Not saying it s bad thing, I just don't have a paypal account nor do I want one, so I immediately hit the 'back' button.
  • 1. The proof set pictured is a stock image. You will receive one comparable to the set pictured.

    or:

    2. "Unopened proof set" -- who knows what lurks inside -- Cameos? DDOs?

    And now, the truth:

    1. I'm too lazy to take a picture of each set I have for sale. You wouldn't want to see a picture of the set I will send you anyway -- it is a milk-spotted POS!!

    2. "Unopened proof set" -- I already looked at this and re-sealed it with glue-stick. You can be sure it has coins that are heavily milk-spotted or gravely mis-handled and damaged. Buy hey -- it was sealed!!

any reserve, the back-button gets hit, i don't care how good the potential deal is.

no-return policy, i hit the button

anything that quotes stupid pop-reports, i hit the button

if ANYTHING about "randomly selected" appears, i hit the button

    1) anyone who charges more than the USPS for insurance

    2) anything with MS@$65,000 in the title (I never get far enough to hit the back button)

    3) unrealistic S&H charges (like $7.00 to mail a $20 coin which means it will arrive in a #10 white envelope with a 37 cent stamp)

    4) low feedback seller/new seller or someone whose account has been inactive for several month and then lists 20 items to sell

    5) all sales are final

    6) estate find (like what does that have to do with anything?) and usually means it's a low grade, cleaned piece of junk bought at a local yard sale

    7) stock photos

there may be more to come as I think of them. . .

Yes. I enjoy "Ernie-free" searches by including "ernie" in the "exclude sellers" portion of Advanced Search. image

  • My favourite: "From GRANDPA'S Collection" yeah right; my rear! Or, how 'bout this one "UNSEARCHED" Again, I don't believe it. I do believe however that Ebay has become a dumping ground for dealer's junk.image

    The very first thing?

I hit the back button when I see toooooooo much verbiage, not related to the item in question, or toooooo much graphics. Toooooo much on the T&C's, or toooooo much krap that does not describe the coin.

If the auction passes that test, there are many others, no return, excessive ships, western union, and on. Tooooo much to choose from to put up with the hype krap.
  • WOW !! All of the above, rediculous shipping fees, over-charged insurance, and ........................

    *** L@@K ***

(well, i don't automatically hit the back button but 8 times out of 10 i won't even click in to the auction)

Ken, how would he/she know that? If I collect MS67 Saints, when would a bent VG silver dollar "be a great addition to my collection!"

Well, as you know, that is one term that doesn't bother me, especially when the seller lives 90 miles away. image

Oh man, I forgot about that one. Are they still using that thing? I have my computer audio fed through my 200w Kenwood receiver, and one night after Sally had gone to bed I clicked on one of their auctions. Sally wasn't very happy about it.
  • I couldn't understand why I was called a liar here when I mentioned some coins I inherited. Then I looked at Ebay--Now I

It wouldn't be if you collected ms67 Saints but it might be if you collect bent VG silver dollars. DUH. If you collect Saints why would you be browsing silver dollars? If you collect both then the guy is right. image
