A Little Confusing ** OR ** are 1972 Lincoln DDO Die 2's really worth this much?

Comments

  • Someone is going to get hosed on this deal. Hopefully the bidders realize they aren't getting the highly desirable one.
A 1943 copper Lincoln will still only buy a gumball out of the machine, but you can purchase the machine and the store with that same cent.
  • I think the seller is probably confused as to the relative value of the various 1972 DDO's. A die #2 in NGC ms66rd sold for $176 on Teletrade last month. On this kind of stuff, PCGS is not worth any more than NGC.

Roger that. The seller seems to be trying hard to make clear this is not ddo-1, and is open about just wanting back what he has in the coin. He may have paid too much himself, as I suspect, and won't sell this. We'll see. But strength of doubling doesn't have anything to do with the value on 1972 1c ddo's, it's rarity, except for die 1, which is strong and well known but common as dirt. Demand and notoriety keep its price up, but the next highest priced one is die 4, which has only minor doubling. Very few are known, thus it's price is very high.
