Someone mentioned to another newbie at this like me to put paper over the lamp. Subdued, but still colorful:

Also try holding the piece of paper above the coin, and then pointing your lights up at the paper.... You'll end up with some slab glare, but sometimes it's worth the trade off for a better picture of the colors

Thanks, George, I'll try it. I am really having fun with this, and it feels so far like other pleasures that I can briefly get better at but never master, like fishing and golf. The urge to keep trying is always going to be there. I think that's good for a person.

Edited to ask if anyone knows why my images disappear about a day after I post them? They remain on my hosting site, Nikon.net.

It's a proof 68 CAM... without the toning, it would likely be a DCAM... but will never dip such a nice coin.
