Now for something a little bit different - I bought a new printer

Yes, it's coin related!!

I picked up an HP Photosmart 8150 printer yesterday (to go along with my Olympus C-765 digicam).

I took this pic

and printed it out full page, high resolution image quality and the da-gone thing looks so cool it looks like it should be in a coffee table book.

Man that's one hell of a printer.

My only complaint is that I had to detatch my scanner (because of lack of room) so I can't have that easily accessible. I'll need to pull it out and hook it up specifically when I want to do scans, but with the new camara, coin images come out much better with that than on the scanner and are very easy to setup and shoot.

  • Cool pix !

We need (want) a new printer.

Print ,scan, copy, fax and a memory card slot.

    Any suggestions ?

The one mentioned above doesn't do the scan, copy, fax requirements. Since I had a scanner which does copy and my laptop has fax capability with the built in modem, so I didn't look for those features.

But there are many printers out there. Staples, Circuit City, BestBuy and many of the other retail axis of evil have dozens with full descriptions of the features.

Just make sure to get a good name brand. I've been burned a few times with lesser name printers that work for a short time then turn into a $100 or $200 paperweight.

Great picture ! Of course it has alot to do with the camera and the photographer's skills and periferal equipment.

LanLord is correct, only get a quality printer - such as the HP he mentioned. I also have an HP - with print, fax, scan, copy funtions ( a two yr old HP psc 950 ) that no longer copies. I was warned about buying all purpose machines, that when one function stops, you loose all the functions when the machine is in the shop. The "all in one" machines are great space savers though. For short money, I can get another updated version and donate my old machine to my ten year old nephew.

  • That sounds similar to the HP I recently got, which is at work. Makes great photos of my beauties so I can look at them after they go into the SDB. And with the flatbed scanner/copier, I image my slabs before they are stored so I have a visual record with cert numbers for ins and inventory purposes. As organized as I have ever felt.

edited to add: it's the hp 2410, by far the best all-in-one I've owned

Is this one a bit closer to the color you like?

This one is raw and resides in my Dansco album. It was scanned, so the resolution is lower and the image is probably flatter.
  • Both are very nice !

You can't go wrong with any HP printer. I have a 7960 Photosmart printer and a Deskjet 722C. I hardly get any trouble calls to work on HP printers. It's usually Lexmarks and Xerox printers that cause most of my problems.

  • I also have an HP all in one. If you buy it at circuit city get the insurance. if anything goes wrong for three yrs they replace it free.just need to keep the receipt.
If you can read this, your too close.

Yes the HP is the way to go. Been using my 7150 for over a year and no problems. Print all my postage lables with it when I ship out the few coins I sell.

I have and highly recommend the Epson Stylus Photo R200. It cost me only about $100 at Staples and makes the BEST prints I think I've ever seen from a printer -- even rivaling Dye Sub printouts. The cool part is it has 6 individual ink tanks and they're only about $12 each...and they last FOREVER! (The printer comes with 6 cartridges already in the box).

They also had a better version which was slightly more expensive, I think it was the R300. From what I could tell it was the same printer with more buttons on it and an LCD screen. Whoopie.
