eBay question: how can I block out certain sellers while I surf eBay?

eBay question: how can I block out certain sellers while I surf eBay?

During my dinner break, I thought that I would pop on eBay to see if i could buy any nice early type. [insert roar of laughter here] There were a few possibilities, but I wasted most of my break by wading through piles and piles of over-graded, misrepresented, over-priced crap. Most of the crap was listed by the same few smellers....I mean sellers.

So.....is there a way to eliminate a certain seller from each category? For example, let's just say for the sake of discussion that I would want to eliminate a seller by the name of.....oh, I don't know......"arnie" from any listings that show in each respective category. How is that done? It sure would make surfing the Bay of E much less frustrating.

Thanks!

  • Jaded, this was recently answered in another post. I never knew how to do it either, until someone pointed it out. What you do is save a search. One of the options for your saved searches concerns "sellers" -- and Ebay allows you to choose "exclude," and you can list up to 10 Ebay sellers to exclude.

It is a great feature. Will save you a ton of time.

  • Jade,
I feel your pain. I don’t know if you can eliminate sellers from your search, but if your seller uses certain words, you can eliminate those. For example, if you are searching for digital cameras and your results show you a lot of memory cards, in the search criteria box you should put something like: Digital cameras –card. Use a minus without a space to eliminate words that you do not want to see in your results. I haven’t tried -arnie.

  • ernie ?

Him too. Ebay is litter with overgraded, recolored early copper from "Ernie". Excluding his auctions from your search saves tons of time!! image

Is there a way to save this search so you don't have to type it in every time? I have at least 10 sellers I'd like to keep out of my search list....ernie included.

As far as the ID numbers go, I tried this months ago for certain sellers and it just wouldn't work. I'll have to give it a go again as maybe Ebay has perfected this.

  • In the upper right hand corner of the results of your search, click the "add to favorites" link. It will ask you to give a name to the saved search. Thereafter, you click "Searches" in the "Favorites" category from the "my Ebay" home page.

Can you do a search in only one catagory like this? or do you have to search all of E-Bay?
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

on page with search results, on the upper right you can add to favorites

as specific a search as you would like

What sinin1 said and what I attempted to say. You customize your Advanced Search as you wish, by category, keywords, exclude certain sellers, etc. Then after you hit "search" you will get the search results. On that page, in the upper right corner will be an "Add to Favorites" link. That saves the search (per the parameters you specified) and then you can call it up again from the "MyEbay" home page.
  • Thanks for this info. I also get tired of wading through ernie's stuff. Always over priced and frequently doesn't mention scratches and other problems. Or, he glosses over them with "A few minor handling marks comensurate with the grade." If he says that the coin is usually mangled. The problem is he has a lot of better date Seated material, I'm just not ever going to pay those prices. image

Wow. I have asked at ebay help, and they said no way to do it. I'm glad someone posted it here.

I said "arnie", not "ernie". image

Hey, thanks to everyone who contributed to this thread. I was able to surf eBay this morning and actually placed multiple bids. So far, I have filtered out 3 annoying sellers and the listings seem much less depressing.
