Just back from Dallas--Heritage is a gracious host and the FUN sale will be Fun!!!!

I flew to Dallas today and spent 4 to 5 hours viewing the Barber dimes, quarters and halves in the Hugon collection. There are so many wonderful coins that I am not going to try and comment on any, other than to say it was a delight to see so many gems at one time.
What was really nice was the reception Heritage gave me. A room by myself for viewing, all the coins at one time, an assistant for security, coffee, breaks, note pads or whatever else was requested.
They even offered to sell my Barber collection for me, when I was ready. I think I expected that, but didn't mind the suggestion, since I got a very nice lunch thrown in.
Seriously, they are a topnotch group and have assembled a fantastic number of coins for FUN. The remainder of the coins had not yet been catalogued, so there are still 8200 coins to view. I'll have to wait for January to see them all.

do you know of a good lawyer i could hire....there is this guy i know who has amassed a collection of barber coins that rivals the hugon collection and he swears that one day he will sell...but i think he has it in his will that he be buried with them so he can take them to the life here after....i would like to have him declared insane ...along with his buddy in houston who collects commems....:-)...who i know for a fact has the same language in his will too...thus both are insane

I will announce a sale of my Barber halves( MS and Proof) and my Lib nickels the day after you consign your commens to auction. I will even request they join the same sale.
I just hope that Blay and Duckor are still in the collector arena at the time, and that the lady at Legends hasn't spent all her client's money.
I'll meet you at the bus stop in Fort Lauderdale! I too am looking forward to viewing some of the neat coins in the FUN sales and even may take a look at coins that are NOT part of my area of focus just for enjoyment. Maybe even Barbers!

Sounds like you had a great time, sitting in that room all by yourself with all of those once in a life time coins. I was doing the same thing about two days ago at the ANS in NYC.......can't beat the feeling of holding a moster coin raw in your hands!
What were the best two coins that you looked at?
Seth
Greg - Can we arrange for some NFL line backers to knock some people out during the auction? I especially need a big guy to take care of Velveeta
Stewart
No doubt the 2 best were the 13-S quarter in 68, and the only 69 half - the 1906-S. Next were the 04-S half in 67 and the 1892-O micro-o in 65. Next were the 05-O micro-o dime and the 95-O both in 65. Next... I could go on for about 200 more.
Jp--
No more bus stops with you, when we have so many coins to look at. I will be in a cab.
Stewart-
I may have to have a secret bidder for my needs, as it appears that is the way to go. Pam Anderson is my first draft pick, then Brittany Spears, then Julia Roberts, Then...I could go on for about 200 more.
An ms 69 Barber Half Dollar ? What were you smoking when you saw that coin? Your going to have to outbid me for the 13 s quarter in 68.Can you believe the 04 s half in 67 did not cross from NGC to PCGS ?I will bet my orange undies that the 05 micro o dime brings strong 5 figures. You can have the 95 o dime in 65.
Stewart
Hope to pick up at least one barber half from the Hugon Collection to become part of my set. Can't imagine how much the top rarities will go for, but the tops should be: 04-S half in 67, micro O half in 65, 13-S quarter in 68, and 01-S quarter in 67.
Any guesses for the total hammer for the various sets such as mint state barber dimes, mint state quarters, and mint state halves?
Wow you must have had such a great time in Dallas !!!! I can't wait until I am retired with lots of time and capital to spend on coins LOL .... someday, but not yet !!!
Seeing as you & Stewart are both reading this thread, I wanted to mention that I have one Barber quarter left to sell. It is the 1894-S PCGS MS66 that was recently in the ANR "Pevehouse/Davis Collection" as lot 345. The coin is incredible, of Hugon quality if I dare say so, as the description in the ANR catalog will attest ... and I don't think anyone would bat an eyelash if it were in a 67 holder. The coin did not meet my reserve in the ANR sale. It is available for purchase.
If anyone is interested, please PM me or e-mail SunnywoodCoin@aol.com for the details. Here are photos:

It might be cheaper just to bump her off....
If I go "O for" in any of the big sales, then I will sell all my coins for the largest profit I could ever dream about.
If no coins are purchased, it will not be because I didin't try. It will mean the hammers went so high that my Barbers will have tripled, instead of the double where they are now.
And if this series gets 5 to 10 times sheet, then the boom of 80 is back. We will all be delirious. It's a no lose proposition.
even us little pi$$ants will make some dough.

Heritage is a gracious Host ..... ??????
I just came back from Dallas and was kept in a 20 x 8 kitchen with more than a dozen other coin dealers. There was no hosting by anyone from Heritage.Go downstairs to the deli if you want to get some food. One well known coin dealer was offering slices of a pie he claims to have baked.I had to lot view either by stacks of soda or when I was moved I was near the refrigereator. The table i was using was constantly being moved so the guerney of coins could go in and out.
Hospitality my A$$.I liked the old place much better. There were no reservations taken.Noone knew how many people were coming in and out.It seemed noone knew who I was nor did I know who anyone else was at Heritage. All in all I felt Heritage has gotten tooooo Big.

Larry is hard to beat. He has the eye. I wish we would have met at his commem invitation. My bad. K
My 1866 Philly Mint Set
I guess I got lucky in going to view before the crowds showed up. Steve, Greg and Jim all came by to see if I needed anything. Leo was lurking, with a consignment contract, and the spacious room was well lit, with a special lamp for viewing.
Why don't you indicate there might be a consignment in the near future?
Monsterman
Larry deserves all the credit you have mentioned, but John is a trooper that never settled for anything but the best he could find. Together, they amassed a wonderful set of coins, not to be duplicated, at least for a long time.
Nic,
Your eye ain't so bad either.
Leo was lurking, with a consignment contract,
Now THAT is funny but also very believable.

With this upcoming F.U.N show for them, they don't need to bother with hospitality.
Still, I can dream.....
