I am now in day 5 with the flu. I can't get rid of it. Now I'm developing a cough that has me worried because pneunomia (sp) is going around our school. Out of the 450 students and faculty, 20 have been diagnosed with it. Usually there are one or two cases per year.

I had pneunomia (sp) in 1998 and I have never been sicker in my life, hope you don't get that!

Went for a chest x-ray this afternoon. There wasn't a radiologist there to read the film, I'll have my brother-in-law read it tomorrow, but the tech said it looks like I have pneumonia which means I can't go back to work because I may infect all my students. I'll find out for sure tomorrow.

Pneumonia really sucks, I really hope you don't have it! I had it in 1998 and I recall it taking months to get back to 100%. I had just gotten on the net then, the day after I came down with pneumonia in fact. Plan on spending the next three weeks in bed thinking you'd have to get better to die if you really do have the big P.image

  • Good grief - sorry to hear you are sick. I am sure they will put you on some antibiotics, if not already on them. Plenty of fluids and rest. Lots of vitamins and juices. My Mom just got over it and she is 73 and was in hospital for awhile - she also had to go on the Prednisone (sp.). My son had it also - everyone on the Gulf Coast seems to have chest colds. I am not on Gulf Coast anymore.

I hope you get better soon, Don! Indeed, lots of rest, water and vitamins (especially C and E) will speed the recovery process.

  • I'm really sorry to hear that Don. Aethelred, I also had it, twice!, the last one in 2001 and it was even worse than the first time. I hope the next results will be better than expected, otherwise you'll have to look at the bright side of it. There's a bright side in everything, you know that ,don't you? image

Thanks for your concern everyone. I just received a call from my MD and I do have pneumonia. Luckily it is bacterial and not viral so I can take antibiotics for it. They won't let me go back to work until monday at the earliest. They are afraid I may give it to the students. I probably got it from one of them to begin with.

You are lucky, Don. I caught viral pneumonia once and my doctor said I would never really get rid of it. He was right. image
  • ajaanajaan Posts: 17,445 ✭✭✭✭✭
Well I wouldn't say 'lucky' image - the flu and pneumonia back to back, but you are correct, viral is much worse. The bacterial pneumonia is what is going around the school.

Take your drugs and feel better. Arsenal needs your support. Even with 12 men on the pitch, they couldn't beat Chelsea.image

  • Hi Don,

Sorry to hear that you are so sick. image There is a lot going around here in North Carolina as well. This is my second day home and I am waiting for the Doc to call. The 70's gave way to the 30's in a quick hurry here. None of us can afford to be sick this time of year however, I have to get drugs as my son is having surgery on the 20th. Ho-Ho-Hoimage
