For business strikes, there is no "69-70" area in which to stay.

  • I agree with Russ. I think someday the MS66's and Ms67's will have some value. Its difficult to find these things in 68 or 69, let alone 70 in business strikes.

I was going to take that cheap just for the fun of it. But I would stick to MS66 or higher. I have a lot of trouble with many dates in those grades. My personal goal is to collect them all in 67 or better(if possible). I really don't want to pay for grading because I know what the grades are. As long as they stay with me, airtites is as far as I will go.

  • Well, I meant Proof 69 70, sorry, but my meaning is as far as worth? I am new and for the most part I've noticed that proofs are worth less than circulated coin. So, my question should be: Should I stay w/ Proofs or circulated as far as future value goes?

Frankly, if you're concerned about future value there are very few coins in the Kennedy series you should even be buying. Most will see no price appreciation at all. The only ones that might are the uber grades for the most difficult years. Collect them because you like them, not because you're looking for an investment.

  • I happened to be at the bank at the right time about a year ago and they had two mint rolls of 1998 D. I went throgh them and foun about five to submit....Results were three MS66 and 2 MS 64's. I'll probaly keep the 66's and give the others away to Yn's
  • Thats a NICE coin!

Thx 2 everyone 4 their input. For the price I paid, I couldn't get one graded.

  • i'd look for a grade or two higher, buying marginal coins are less attractive to collectors and if you ever sell, don't expect any appreciation. save your money until you can afford a higher grade or two. and most important the eye-appeal-beauty of the coin usually follows the grade. you'll enjoy the coin more in a higher grade. they are easy to see the quality of a coin graded 2 points lower.

Nice, attractive mint state Kennedies can be harder to find than most people think.
While future tastes of collectors are impossible to predict, there is no doubt that
small increases in demand can mean large increase in price through out this series
for scarcer and more desirable issues.
