Nicest 1936d 5c 3 & 1/2 leg in existence?

So I've gotten into this morbid habit of looking at his/their new listings every day for the daily dose of abuse. I don't know the ubertechology of linking yet, but his item 3944190886, started yesterday, clearly shows this variety, although some pics have less of a front leg than others. Now, knowing his/their credibility and practices, do you buffalo specialists think this is the real deal?

    Link to eBay auction

I don't know enough about this variety to comment on the pics. I do know enough not to bid on this auction though.

Nice catch. I believe you are correct on your attribution. I also think they ruined a very rare coin.

  • Oh my, they may have severely damaged a valuable variety without knowing it!!!
  • What is up with this guy?
  • What on earth is all that nonsense in the listing about !!! These people have ISSUES !!!

    Wouldn't touch it with a ten-foot pole ... even with the missing 1/2 a leg !!!

I'm not at home right now to look at my books but I am going to say that the leg on that does Not appear to be that of the 36d 3.5 legger. It looks odd, almost as if it has been goofed with.

This coin in no way matches the coin from a geniune die. I believe this criminal has airbrushed the leg off an image of a regular coin.
  • However, the seller does not mention the coin is a 3.5 legger (from what I could bear to read). So I think there is a decent chance (40-50%) it is genuine because the seller does not appear to know it. I wouldn't bet the ranch on it though.

He does not mention that it's that variety so it can't be returned as an "altered" coin. I think this guy knows exactly what he's doing. It lacks the "look" and die markers of a genuine 3 1/2 leg variety.
