Insured to Canada?

Hi,
Im trying to do a favor for my Dad.

Does anyone know if there is an insured mail service available from the US to Canada and what type of service is it? The insured amount would be $2000.

Happy Holidays!

For a Value of $2000 I recommend Registered Mail with insurance.

Hmmm . . . I thought you could insure up to $5000 to Canada but the USPS site says maximum is $1000. I would check at your local PO if possible.

    What about FedEx or Airborne?

I don't know what their insurance limits are, but they sure track their packages more closely. NEN has used FedEx to get shipments to me.

    UPS can do it.

I just checked here for USPS rates. Only $675 max indemnity.

For registered it says $1000 max indemnity but I thought it was higher.

  • I think the UPS guys in Canada are currently on strike with reduced services.

FedEX? Yes, but the "Big Guys" that ship FedEX have their own Mega-Insurance policies; something akin to a Lloyd's of London or Marine Midland to use FedEx or UPS with essentially unlimited liability. The poor church mice of the world do not have that luxury (sigh!!!) or expense either.

I always use registered to Canada. The max insurance on registered is $1000, but I have sent $5000 worth of coins on occasion and not had any problems (knock on wood). If you do return receipt, you can track your package @ www.usps.gov.

Some Canadian dealers have sent high value coin packages to me via Fedex without incident.

Thanks for all the help. I would go with the registered if that's the best the post office offers. I've received coins that way from Canada with no problem, knock on wood.imageimage Eh!

    Happy Holidays everyone!
