1000 dollars reward for anyone who can get this done for me.

1884 seated quarter in pcgs m.s. 66- wholesale value listed as $7425.

More accurate or closer to sheep dip ?

Numismedia price has actually fallen almost 2 k for this coin in the last 2 years so it is not a typing error. If anyone can find me a buyer at the listed value I will give you $ 1000 on the completion of the transaction, either that or Numismedia is full o' crap.

If anyone who works for Numismedia in an official paid position will pay me this price I won't give them a red cent but I will donate $ 2000 after the completion of the deal to the charity of their choice [except any charity that does abortion related things like planned parenthood].

  • Note to forum mods, the purpose of this thread is not to sell a coin [allthough the offer is real].

If you want to move this to the b.s.t. board, thats up to you but I wanted to list this here for a specific reason and that reason should be clear to anyone that uses numismedia as a price guide.

I'm not sure that greysheet has bid prices for coins above 65 in grade, but I'm pretty sure no auction price or dealer buy price would even come close to half what Numismedia says this coin is worth.

    Les:

Grey Sheet only lists Seated quarter prices up to MS65, and I would not be at all surprised to hear they're even more out of touch with that series than they are with Morgan dollars.

Heritage has sold only one of those in that grade (an NGC coin) in the last six years. It went for $2875.
    When in doubt, don't.
  • B.t.w, my coin is not a proof 66, its a mint state 66.

I am really suprised that Heritage went with Numismedia for their collection values in the "my collection" part of their site, but if Heritage thinks its accurate my offer is good to them also, 2000 bucks to the charity of their choice if they buy the coin for the Numismedia listing of $ 7425.

The world's most mindblowing toner 1884 MS66 25c might be worth
$5000. But the typical ones are worth $1800-2800 depending on quality.

But I did see one of the well-respected forum dealers offering a MS66 or PF66 1880's seated quarter for something like $6500 recently. I don't think it sold either. And Mike DeFalco picked up a PF66 Barber quarter for $5-6K because of the color. But it's only exceptional pieces that could be worth over $4,000 in MS/PF66.

There are lots of "bugs" in price guides and this is just another one. That's all. No big surprise here.

Conversely, I could offer a $2000 "reward" to SELL me certain coins at sheet prices, and wouldn't get any takers.

Yeah, take a look at the CCE bids sometime. Other than commonly traded generics and bread and butter type coins and key dates, it's a joke. It makes blue sheet look like auction prices. That's why they call them price "guides" I guess. Coin World is pretty accurate in many areas. But you have to know what % to apply to the price.
It may only be 60% in illiquid areas, and up to 100-300% in hotly contested key dates for example.

I sold a beautiful 1885 PCGS MS66 last year to a board member for 3250$, and it was NICE with a capital N...image I wish I could have got that kind of money.
