Not Darkside??? Huh, when did you ever see one of these on the Liteside??? Hmm-m-m?? Remember, the Dark Side is not just coins -- it's all numismatics that isn't US coins! image

  • Cool, shep! Is it one of the Longines Symphonette medals? (it'll say so in the edge lettering if it is)

I believe that their flight took them through Yellowstone, at least that sticks in my mind from somewhere.
    "Have a nice day!"
  • Hey Steve - Yes it is a Longines Symphonette medal according to the edge markings - I have not heard of these before but this just happened to catch my eye because of the history here in Eastern Washington and North Idaho.

Is this part of a Longines Symphonette series.

Blackhawk - Chief Joseph led his band across the Northwest , crossing many states trying to escape the Army and reach Canada - he almost made it but he and his band were almost wiped out by the US Army and relocated to Oklahoma.
He is famous for his saying That from where the sun stands today I will fight no more forever.

  • There probably is a series of them with indian themes, don't know for sure though. I had some of the 'patriots of the revolution' a while back that had the same look to them, which is why I asked. All I ever found out about them is that they were made some time in the seventies.

    ?????

Seriously, this is one chapter which shows both the best and worst of US history.

I have nothing but admiration for what they (Cheif Joseph) were trying to achieve and the way they went about it , I believe that this action is studied intensely at many Military Academies around the world including West Point.

Oh and nice piece, if you see another I am very interested.

My thoughts exactly, Cruzi. It doesn't make sense. Either he was successful or not. Apparantly not.

But Dark Sorceror, I am with Shep in proclaiming (loud and clear) that US coins and medals fall under the jurisdiction of the Darkside by virtue of their being part of the all-encompassing realm of the Dark. Little do US collectors realize that they are, unwittingly, just playing into our hands.

  • This Longines series is pretty common and covers the breadth of American history. There are other historical medal series out there, too, including a very nice British one on naval history.

  • Very nice. I think the horse kind of tells it all. He is still plodding forward but looks very tired and looks almost like he knows the outcome of his journey will not be a good one.
