    It's a Conder Token

  • It's a contemporary counterfeit Conder token from Macclesfield in the county of Cheshire. D&H 68, 68a, or 68b depending on what the edge inscription is. It was intended to capitalize on the success of the tokens issued by Roe & Co a copper refinery. Roe issued tokens from 1789 through 1792. They used this design all but the first year and issued some 1,030,000 tokens in 43 varieties. (They issued 103,000 tokens with a different design in 1789 in 6 varieties.)

All three varieties of D&H 68 are listed as Rare.

    so it's not a coin...and it's rare, cool!

  • That's a fair price for it. Rare doesn't mean that it is extrmely valuable. There are so many Chishire tokens that most people don't collect them by variety and are satified with one piece as a type. In that condition a common token would be about a $8 coin. So $14 for a rare one would be reasonable.
