<< <i>Slider UNC that looks MS-63 at first glance. Aptly named for the distinguished gentleman who virtually invented the AU-58 graded coin, the famous (drum roll . . . . . ) Mad Marty >>
Marty,
You IS my Hero !!!
<< <i>I'm going to hide under my rock now... >>
They make rocks that big????
It would be nice to have it pedigreed
<< <i>I like the idea of MM58 as the grade.... >>
Fugheddaboutit! Ebay would add MM58's to the forbidden auctions list because the demand would quickly overwhelm Ebay's largest file servers!

Don't most collectors call high end sliders "Martys" now? Terminolgy was bound to evolve for AU's that have a "shot" at MS-62
You make a great point. Come to think of it, I hear MadMarty's name constantly being used on the bourse floor. Things like, "dang, PCGS Marty'ed my 1899 Indian Cent", or, "that coin is a lock AU-55 and a possible Marty".

I tell ya, the guy is like a walking AU-58 curse. We once cracked an MS-66 Morgan out of a PCGS holder, hoping to walk it through PCGS for an MS-67 upgrade at the last Baltimore show. Marty stopped at our table just before we submitted it and asked if he could look at the coin. He obliged and let him hold it. The next day we get the coin back in an AU-58 holder. Now whenever Marty walks by our table at any show, we throw table covers over the cases and put chairs on top until he is at least 3 rows away. He's a curse, I tell ya!
