PCGS' new world rarity service

$75 for a 30 day submission (not guaranteed). HUH? Anyone else notice this?

Comments

  • Is that per coin??? image

edited to add: Just looked at the site, they still have the $30 per coin rate as well as the $12 for moderns, but what classifies one as a "rareity" for that rate??

It appears to be coins valued over $5,000. $75 per coin, 30 days, NO guarantee.

I think all the service fees are prohibitive....

Sure, Cacheman. But I bet if they offered frisbee-sized slabs, you'd jump on the bandwagon...image

  • For $75 can they at least guarantee "no fingerprints"??
Why would it cost more to give a grade to a more expensive coin?? image

Seeing the PCGS prices reminds me that more and more of the members here seem to be using NGC as their slabber of choice. image

True, but you can count me out of the NGC fans, even though my submissions were minimal and scarce. Economy is $14 at NGC,( $16 at PCGS, $10 at ANACS), gold is at $21 and a minimum of 5 , very expensive, but mostly their grading has disapointed many of these members whose results are often posted here: unfair RB or BN designations ,controversial grades, not often but sometimes,it only takes one serious coin to make the damage, and mostly unfair BB ,due to AT or IC. And of course, I don't like their holder! image

Seriously, I'd still be submitting everything to ANACS if their world coin section was more active on ebay, so I only use it for the coins of my own collection and PCGS for the rest. The tier of world rarities seems absurd, I'd rather go to a walk through, preferrably in a show. Also, PCGS needs a world gold economy service, 10 coins min. for ex. JMHO.

I have so far been mostly pleased with my world coin submissions to NGC (and PCGS for that matter), but I've never submitted any copper. There was one coin they BB'd that I disagreed with so far. But with the price hike for economy submissions, NGC has partially written off one of its big advantages over PCGS, IMHO.
