Opus 166 “AWAKENING OF EGYPT” Ägypten erwacht, 1915, Cast AE, 56.6mm.
On the occasion of Britain’s declaration of protectorate over Egypt on Dec. 17, 1914. Unrest follows. Inscription on Obverse: “Egypt awakes 1915.” Showing the Sphinx and representative unrest behind it. Reverse inscription says “ Sir Grey, show your power.” This was a tongue-in-cheek challenge by Goetz to Sir Edwin Grey who was the British Foreign Minister at the time. The reverse shows a sweating Grey with Death and it’s hourglass waiting for him.
Funny how history is repeating itself in that general area today, isn't it?

Everyone knows Egypt has boobs, duh Frank!
That is a great medal Scott, it is rare that both sides of a medal or token will catch my eye, but with this medal that is the case.
