how safe is a trip to the pawn shop?

dreams of grandeur: Aspirations of becoming a member of the exclusive "you suck" club by making a lucky snag to the local pawn shop(not too local!image), and picking up a rare find. What do I expect there? How do I shop?

Here, in Frederick, Maryland, it is a waste of time. The pawn shops sell bullion and junk at inflated prices. I've never been the lucky one to find anything good in a pawn shop.

  • I agree with Mike. If you know your varieties you may find something. Most of what I've seen here in the pawnshops is cleaned junk.

You never know, though, it may be worth a shot.

  • I have an RV parked in Va. and I hit all the pawn shops when I'm down there looking for furnishings and electronics and things like that. I have yet to see a collectible of any kind being sold at bargain basement prices.

Local Pawn shops around here, same old cleaned Junk. Silver dollars and bullion material.

But while visiing Va, I did manage to find a Vf 1872 Two center for 50.00 about two years ago.

pawn shops usually have overpriced junk. you may get lucky and be at the right place at the right time, but far more likely, you will waste lots and lots of time looking at the same kind of garbage.
