ebay sellers what do you do with an offer after close?

You list an item, it doesn't sell and someone sends you an email offering a lower, but acceptable price.

You are SUPPOSED to report it to ebay.
Do you?

Why are you supposed to report it to ebay?

New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.

If it's an underbidder, sell it using the second chance feature. If it's not an underbidder, sell it with a quick BIN listing.

kranky....because the email arrives in an ebay form saying you should.

I ....suppose.... it is generated from an "Ask seller a question" option after the sale.

I think that's what I'd probably do, too. Plus if this buyer wanted to use PayPal, I'd have no protection against chargebacks off of eBay.

I sell the coin... obviously no fees are due or the item would have sold during the listing time, ebay doesn't own the world yet...

I send an e-mail informing them that the coin was for sale on eBay, but since it didn't sell in that venue it is no longer available (to bottom-feeders like them.)

OK, I leave out the part in prentheses.
    When in doubt, don't.

  • If it was me, and the buyer had decent feedback, I'd do the deal. What ebay doesn't know won't hurt them.

  • Since I start all my auctions at 1 cent, I'd be weeping if the best offer I got was below my starting price. image
  • I did'nt vote.It depends.

On numerous occasions I have just sold the item through email. No fees.

What if rather than offering less then the opening bid he offers either the open or even MORE then the opening bid? (I've offered more than the open on lots that got no bids in sales that I've missed if I think the open was too low.)

I believe many dealers post hi-dollar coins on ebay without any intention to sell via ebay (they set the minimum or reserve too high). In essence, they just use ebay as an advertising medium with the intention of selling "off-ebay". Ebay's policies can't regulate free commerce, and ebay earns the listing fees so it's not a "free ride". There are some ethical issues, but in the end it's just another way to do business IMO.

Why do people think Ebay owns a item just because it was listed there once ? What a load. Its your item and you can certainly sell the item to whoever you feel like selling it to. This reporting of people has a very foul smell.

Sell the coin if the offer is within reason. "Done Deal"
