Over-Anxious seller ? Over-cautious buyer?

I emailed an Ebay seller about a raw coin he has listed with about a $1500 BIN.........

<< <i>Do you see anything that would keep this coin from slabbing at PCGS ????? Would you be willing to let me send it in conditionally on purchase????? Thanks, Jim >>

I received his answer........

<< <i>Coin would Slab Somewhere.. between AU-58 and MS-62.. please just press the buy it now and the coin is yours..Send along payment and if you want to return the coin For any reason over the next Six months or so I will give you a Full $$$ refund.. >>

Is it me being overly cautious, or would you be seeing red flags here too...... The ambiguous use of "Slab Somewhere" and a 6 month return privelege ??????? I've heard of accomodating sellers, but 6 MONTHS ??????

Whaddya think ?????

The response that the coin would slab "somewhere" after you specifically referenced PCGS in your question raises the hairs on the back of my neck. I'd pass on this one.

Edit: Wait a minute. I think I miss read it. I guess he means somewhere between AU58 and MS62. HMM... Does he accept PayPal? If so, I might give it a shot if the grade range matches the price.

  • He avoided your first question all together. If you really want the coin I would e-mail him again and ask clear, specific questions and ask for clear, specific answers to each question.

    Have a Great Day!

  • "Somewhere" sounds an awful lot like an ANACS net slab. I'd pass.

On second thought, ask the seller if he's willing to do an escrow until the coin comes back from PCGS. If it doesn't pass muster, you can always return it and take your money back without worry.

The part about you asking to send it in conditionally on purchase seemed a little strange to me- I wouldn't ask a seller to predict what pcgs might think..... or maybe it's just me, and most other people think that's a valid way to purchase a raw coin??

BTW- I think spending $1500 on a raw coin online from a dealer you don't know would be pretty adventurous......

I take it to mean *would slab somewhere between AU-58 and MS-62.*
Asking you to please buy it sounds like he's desperate to make a sale.
I guess along payment gets you along return. He apparently knows how long it takes PCGS to grade a coin.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.
