Who would actually want to join this forum after....

seeing the BS that has been going on over the past days, nothing but a bunch of childish acts that have no end, and pointless, there really is no point to all this crap that is goin on, get over it and get a life. Better yet, ask yourself when the last time you have been laid, it seems some people around here need to relieve some stress, seriously folks. From the posts that I have read in this forum, I see a lot of the following types of people ELITISTS/CHILDREN/INGRATES/HIPOCRITS . Yeah, there are some great people that are members of this forum, i've even bought some coins from a couple of them, and was very satisfied, but, overall, with the BS that is goin on lately, it makes me sick, and i'm sure that anybody that is curious about this forum, and WAS thinking about joining up, has since left, seeing as how all the crap that is going on, it's driving possible members away from it, as well as some that are already members, rather it matters to anyone or not.

It's ridiculous that someone new to coin collecting can come in here with a question, and only a few members will post to them, giving them real advice/information , while an immature little ingrate can flood this forum with multiple threads that consist of THE SAME FU%#ING THING! NT AT NT AT NT AT AT AT NT NT NT, and members keep replying, come on people, let's play along with the BS and FEED IT MORE. Get off your ego trip, and quit with the BS.

  • Hi there,
I must agree image I have thought of leaving and I am quite new image However, I remind myself of MrSpud and his threads, the Frattlaw experiment, and all the helpful posts by and for collectors of coins that unfortunately appear to be in the minority - especially with all this current nonsense. I care AT or NT - but that is not what was really being discussed. Just wading through it is absurd.
I hope you count my hopefully informative "wood" threads among the interesting ones image even if they are on the 3rd page in 4 minutes - as are almost the good posts I've seen image

    Best to you,
Billy (our icons look pretty good together too!)

PS - and now for a COIN instead of all that nonsense... image

  • Actually, a lot more people seem to show up whenever a controversial topic pops up. Whether they are already members who prefer to lurk, or newbies who sign up after perusing the thread(s) in question just to express an opinion and are never heard from again. A little yelling and stomping of feet every once in a while is probably good for the forums because of all the new blood it brings in.

I agree that it gets old. But, it's easy to deal with; don't read them and don't reply to them. They all eventually go away, some just take longer. In the meantime, try posting coin related threads. This gives those individuals with coin interests something to check out while the battles are being waged. jmho.

It didn't seem to bother the accused. He dragged it on for another day so far, thread after thread.

That's the way things are handled drag it out until both sides are completely worn out and then the original points are lost all together.

It's truly funny, no make that truly sad, that people in this day and age are so wrapped up in their own little world that they refuse to try and teach someone else the correct or accepted way of doing things.

Heck you should have been around a couple of years ago. Oh yea I see that very many members are still here from that period and also very many newer members.

Sometimes this Mud Slinging can really help a person that has been under a false assumption about a item or person. Sometimes the Mud is just Crap as you stated.

  • LOL - if you think this is bad, you should've seen it a couple of years ago! image
  • I agree that it is childish, but I simply don't read them and if I do read an early one I sure don't reply to it and thereby give it a bump. Also agree that newbie posts deserve more attention and helpful info. Most times they do, but when a pissing match is going on they get less attention.

    Still a good forum overall,

  • Better yet, ask yourself when the last time you have been laid,

    Definitely my problem.
  • Or, there are many of us that just ignore those type of threads rather creating a rant thread to rant about others rantings or trying to become the forum police.

Unlike an airport or a theatre, you can ignore the rantings of others on this forum and only read/participate in those threads that are of interest to you. I don't need a police officer in order to not have to participate or listen to the disturbance.

What is often just as bad as the childish rant and attack threads are the childish threads where folks attempt to be the "forum police." I usually am able to avoid the temptation to participate in either type, but alas this morning I had to respond to the new forum police officer.
    Go well.

I was thinking the same. For about 2 or 3 months it was like WW3 but, where able to sort it out. Maybe it gave us the endurence to go through this NT/AT thing. Also, being a recycled topic of discussion, the older members know the history behind the topic. Some is plain bickering, other are real life concerns.

The AT/NT thing is part of the integrity of the hobby. Would someone want to pay $10 Million for a real, authentic Picasso or for one that is counterfeit? I`ll take the real, authentic one.

It would be a greater disservice to the hobby if it wasn`t confronted. How would it look if someone bought a counterfeit Picasso for $10 Million and was considered ok? Would that bring in more people that doesn`t care about coins and only in making a buck ( I`m thinking more towards the " used car salesman " type or unsavory charecters )? Or would that bring in more people that truely likes/loves the hobby or ones that are considering the hobby?

Not to knock what you`re trying to point out. Just that this topic does have a history and part of it is an ego trip. Other is a real life problem within the hobby.

I`m not attacking or thinking of any members when I write this. Just that I`m trying to point out that the problem is real and not so much a singular person. It`s a bigger problem then that.

Sometimes education comes with a price. Nothing is free in this world and if to learn you have to read some long ongoing soap-opera like threads so be it. I think most newbies would prefer that to purchasing $5,000 worth of AT coins only to lose in the long run.

Sometimes you also have to shift through the silt to find the gold nuggets.

Every time I get ready to say "Done Deal"image to the forum, there are always a few informative posts, or I post a question and get immediate help. The good really does outweigh the bad, even though the bad seems to be a lot more visible.

Edited to add: As an example of a great thread, look at Coinguy1's grading by photos thread.
  • It definitely had a snowball effect. But, I believe a new person would join anyway. The question is who/how many are going to quit posting because of it. For me, I was in a sort of crossroads about continuing with coins or going to currency. The past few days isn't the only factor, but I'm through with coins, need a break maybe.

Many use these forums to PR themselves. Some do it the right way by offering advise and assisting newbies, others do it by always fanning the flames of controversy. Either way , it's often a business move.

Best thing to do is to increase the number of coin related threads to provide options, for those who care to view coins instead of spilled blood.

Heh heh. Go to a fantasy football board or sports forum. Tell them tearfully that you can no longer post because someone mocked someone else's pocket protector.

That'd be good for about 1,000 pages of ridicule.

I'll happily read a 400 post thread about AT vs. NT and the goings-on behind the scenes of some major dealers than *yet another* thread on someone wondering if some Kennedy Half is an accent-hair. While there is a lot of BS thrown around, there is a lot to be learned as well.
  • Catch22Catch22 Posts: 1,086 ✭✭
Yeah...you just HAD to read that repulsive thread didn't you? You just couldn't keep your fingers from clicking on that offensive thread. Everybody rubber necks, but the girly men have to start a thread condemning their own behavior.

Every few months we have the cry babies whining about getting their feelings hurt or better yet, the "that's it, i've had it, i'm leaving" threads. Grow some nads and kwitcherbtchin.

    Me too image.
  • as an aside - there was a tubful of great information in that thread - much as whay Michael said (he must've went to a good high school). For newbies you could've picked up some valuable information on poking around the background of some coins before ponying up a ton of money, as well a AT vs NT.

You also got a pretty good look at the shady character of at least one of the participants.

  • Being a relative newbie, I found the whole topic to be very informative. I now realize that I have a lot more to learn before paying any significant premium for toning.

If you were attacked on this forum before you had a chance to present your side of the story, would'nt you too vigorously defend yourself? I think Anaconda made his point quite well in all those NT AT NT AT NT AT AT AT NT NT NT threads.

If you don't like it, or have nothing to learn from it, it's not very hard to click on -- page 2 --.

  • I figured this thread would have been long gone by now, but, anyways. I didn't ask for anyones opinion, of my opinion. I like the whole spell check thing too image sounds like you came from yahoo. What's even funnier is someone who claims that this is a waste of space, and decides to post anyways, oh ok. I also like how someone can complain about someone complaining, hipocrit #1 anymore takers? It seems some of you are more able to jump on a new member to this forum, before they will jump on someone who has been here a long while, you know what I got to say to those who do that, Well... Aren't you a bunch of Pu$#ies! image Anways, take care everyone. This thread is closed to me.
