EYE APPEAL

is subjective. Would it bother you knowing that this coin has the initials "C B" scratched into the obverse. Unless you know it's there, you don't see it.

I knew they were there, but I had to have it anyway. I'll sell it on ebay as the first coin Charles Barber engraved. image

Hey almost anything goes with these. That's what makes them fun. So many different types of varieties, errors etc. I never go for a cleaned coin.
This coin below is cleaned, But..............

Talk about eye appeal is subjective? Check out the face on this girl.image Not an error but I think they are weird, and like them.

TD, to answer your question, no the initials wouldn't bother me if the price reflected it. Sorry if I started hijacking your thread.

    shylock...another cool coin. Triple struck?

  • TD,

    Where is the "C B" ? image

  • The "C" is in front of the neck, just below the chin and the "B" is behind the head, between the back of the neck and the third star.

image Wow, They must be either really small, or my eyes just can't pick them out because i'm tired image

  • Unless the light is right, you don't see them. I imagine they were put there a long time ago. Either that or someone pretty skillfully retoned the coin.

Yeah, the initials carved into a bust half would annoy me, and I always avoid the ones that have been scratched, engraved, etc.... but that is one of the factors that makes the hunt more challanging for me.. image
By the way Stman- that 1824 is COOL!!
