This seller is well-known for doctoring pictures to add color and stuff.

Here is one I own that I scanned to compare. My scan is pretty accurate. But doesn't show the very nice luster.

Actually, they have used labels very close to that color (or labels that have discolored to that color).

I just sent this message to the seller:

    Dear seller,

Is this by chance a typo for this listing - "VALUE $1975.00" ?

Also, whether you know it or not and whether you care or not, you have generated much negative publicity for your images, whch are widely regarded as being inaccurate, misleading and intentionally more colorful than the coins you are selling.

    Sincerely,
    Mark Feld

Mark: image Unfortunately, this seller will probably disregard your email due to his greed.image

    That's a serious markup image

I'd rather buy this rotated obverse variety for a fraction of the price.

By his standards, the hit on the cheek would keep this one slightly below the 1K level.
  • Actually, a number of sellers, including some auction houses, routinely increase the color saturation in their digital images of toned coins. In some cases, the results are blatantly overdone and misleading. In other cases, the digital doctoring makes the photos more accurate. That's because photography of colorfully toned silver coins is very difficult. If you look at Heritage's photos of toned silver, which do not appear to be doctored, the colors are often washed out. The pictures look much less exciting than the coins themselves. They need to either improve their photography methods or enhance their images via software.

The bottom line is, however you create the picture, whether through different lighting conditions, or by digital enhancement, if it does not look like the coin, it is misleading. If it looks worse than the coin, it's an injustice to the coin. If it looks better than the coin due to deliberate enhancement, it's an injustice to the buyer, and borders on fraud. And it's a bad business practice, because it's REALLY annoying to get a coin and find out that it doesn't look anywhere near as good as the pics !!!!!

  • I've been buying and selling nice rainbow toned dollars for a couple years; and I have NO confidence in bondman22's images.

Bondman used to have the odd nice coin, but now they all seem to come from the infamous 'Three Mile Island Hoard'.image

The image of the reverse is a different coin. It doesn't have any toning at all on the back
and look at the top of the back. Where is the top of the slab?

Well that pretty much shows it all... and even looks like its APN's toning mode shot versus luster so if there would definitely show.image

Actually there have been many posts over the last 3+ years about his photos so pretty much everybody knows what is going on. Some people still try to have faith in him but it NEVER works out in the end.
