When selling Morgan dollars, how much of a loss should you expect to take?

I've got ten MS-61 to MS-65 Morgans, that im interested in selling at the show. How much of a loss would you expect, if I sold. It depends what it is, on whether or not i'll sell them. I have an 1884-CC MS-63 NGC, that I guess is really hot, maybe I could get even more than guide for it, you think? Oh yeah, i've got 5 by NGC, 3 by Anacs, 1 ICG, and 1 Trugrade.

It would help to know what dates, grades and how much you paid. You have zero information to help in determining what you desire help with.

You might do better selling on the BST board or on ebay.

Depends on a lot of things. What is the eye appeal, luster, strike and grade? Just because it is MS61 doesn't mean it has eye appeal or maybe its really PQ. We'd have to see them or at least know the date and grade of each coin.
    Good luck...

If you get some good images of those coins and list them on the BST board here, I think you'll actually make a profit on most of them. The only one I would be concerned about would be the Trugrade coin. Overall, I think you should at least break even. Don't take them to a show and accept 20% back of bid for them.

Take Eric's advice; you should have no problem selling those on the BST without taking any loss.

Sell them on eBay...that way you won't have to listen to the dealers bad-mouth your coins or the holders they are in.
    All glory is fleeting.
  • Sell here or on eBay.

You will come out ahead either way.

At the show you will probably lose 10%. But it really all depends on when you purchased them and if they have increased in value since then. I traded/sold some nice Morgans at the Pittsburgh ANA and made out real well. I was getting 350 for Morgans I bought a year ago for 250-275 so I was happy about that.
  • Well I read the 84-CC is up to $220 now, and the other three NGC went up to $63. The others stayed the same, although I can't find a value for the DMPL.

-Good Images- will really help in selling. List 'em on the BST, all it costs is time.

Just for giggles (and some point of reference), here are the Bid prices from the 9/10 Greysheet:

    1884-CC MS-63 NGC_Paid $145 (Bid = $165)
    1901-O MS-62 Anacs_Paid $30 (MS-60 Bid = $24, MS-63 Bid = $35)
    1904-O MS-63 Anacs_Paid $30 (Bid = $35)
    1886 MS-61 Anacs_Paid $25 (MS-60 Bid = $23, MS-63 Bid = $35)
    1885 MS-63DMPL ICG_Paid $80 (Bid = $65)
    1882-S MS-63 TruGrade"The Muir Collection"_Paid $36 (Bid = $35)
    1883 MS-65 NGC_$150 (Bid = $143)
    1884-O MS-64 NGC_$49 (Bid = $48)
    1880-S MS-64 NGC_$49 (Bid = $48)
    1898 MS-64 NGC_$49 (Bid = $48)

Whether you'll be able to sell for more or less than these prices, of course, depends on the quality of the individual coins.
