Gustavus Adolphus was indeed missed by the Swedish people. He played an important part in the liberation of the Swedish kingdom from Danish rule and his actions and politics in Europe helped build the identity of Sweden as a nation. He was one of those rare kings at the time who both had good intellectual skills and the ability to lead an army to success. In the thirty years war in the 17th century he conquered his way through Europe from Poland to Austria trying to defend the protestant faith.
