Coin Collectors' doldrums.............

I'm not tired of collecting, I love it.......... I've completed more date/mint collections than the average collector can ever hope to......... Today I took a ride and visited my 2 favorite coin shops within 50 miles........... The first one had called me several days ago after he purchased a complete set of 3CN proofs......... Many/most were 65-66-67 Cams............ I examined each one reasonably closely noting eye appeal / problems, anything notable......... This set could be brought up into the top 4-5 registry sets with minimal effort.......... I found myself only liking 3 of the coins, and naturally, they were only for sale in the complete date run.......... I thought it might be the design of the 3CN that just wasn't "trippin my trolley", but the 3 coins I had set aside could take my breath away........... Normaly a set like this would be exactly my "cup of tea", but for some reason, I wasn't getting excited........... I did pick up 3 different varieties of 80/79 Rev 79 GSA dollars for what I condidered a fair price............. (I already had a couple, but one had very nice prooflike services under some very nice textile toning) Funny how the nicest coin of the 3 is the one in the holder without "uncirculated" on it......... I guess the toning is responsible for that..........
At my next stop, inventory seemed low, but I managed to snag a '01 Barber half in NGC 58, and a raw 1897 $10................ Seems that I'm searching for a "new drug", and maybe subconsciously pensive of an unpredictable market............ I'm feeling that the modern market would crash and burn without the "Registry"................ and that certain aspects of TPG are created to "nourish the beast".......... Baby boomers with their expendable cash are driving early type thru the roof, yet I don't see the YN's waiting in the wings to sustain the market in the next 20-30 years.......... Modern commems are like "sound of Music" commemorative plates to me......... totally uninteresting............. There isn't a bone in my body that craves the "uber" grades.............. I guess I'm burnt out............... It's either time for a break, or ,aybe a trip to the darkside............. Anybody "been there / done that" ??????????
