1964 Topps Giants ALL PSA 9 Set on Ebay

I just saw where our old friend Zardoz51 has a complete set of 1964 Topps Giants ALL IN PSA 9 NQ on Ebay.

All PSA 9 1964 Topps Giants Set

This is the first time such a set has been for sale anywhere and it would automatically be #3 on the all-time set registry list.

It has all of the impossible low pops such as Boyer (5), Gonzales (6), Romano (6), as well as the other 5 cards with pops below 10. The Boyer 9 NQ has never been offered on ebay before either.

Its not my set, but as it is my favorite registry set, I just found it very interesting that an entire 9 set could and would appear at once. Especially one that was not on the registry to begin with.

  • an 8.75 GPA set sold in a Superior auction in 2003 for $6300. i believe the consignor said it was a disappointment, since he spent $8k building it.

if i had $9000 to spend on cards, this would probably be my top choice

Interesting indeed. I like that set alot. It appears to be an older set since the individual cards shown all have the pre-2003 flip.

  • The last couple of Koufax 9's have gone for over $1,000. The Mays, Mantle and Clemente can average about $1,500, at least, for the 3. The Skowron has been up in the $500 range and many of the other short print and low pop cards like Causey, Freehan and Aparicio have cleared $300 on a regular basis.

But the value of this set to me is that all of the extremely difficult cards are there in one group.

The Boyer 9 only appears in the top two registry sets. The Gonzales in no more than 4 and so on.

If you look at the top registry sets with a weighted average over 8.5, you will note that they are all missing the same cards, or a combination thereof, in 9 (Boyer, Gonzales, Brinkman, Romano, Koufax in many, E. Howard, Skowron, Cisco, Freehan, Aparicio, Pearson and Gentile, amongst others).

Many of these cards have not appeared on ebay in months if not years and could receive strong bidding from the upper registry guys(again, the Boyer never). But they are here in one place.

Safe bet. This foolproof system has been working since 1998. I'm going to expand my operation by selling a "How To Get Rich Quick On Ebay" course by means of an infomercial on TV. It's like a gypsy cookbook receipe for an egg dish.

Steal 3 eggs, steal some salt, steal some butter to grease the pan you stole last week..........

Wow, Gemmintman and Zardo on the same thread! It's '02 all over again- bring on the green giant and pass the koolaid!

Kinda tough to do, since half of the sets over 8.5 are hidden. Mine is only missing a couple of those listed, and a few not listed. Might be safer to say those are among the tougher cards and they may or may not be missing from the top ranked sets.

  • Good point Anthony.

I guess my real point was that there are a lot of toughie 9's that have rarely, if ever, been on ebay and they are all here in the Zardoz set. Even the #3 set is missing the Koufax, Boyer and Gonzales. And, I believe there is another off-registry set that has most of the toughies as well. Which means even fewer for everyone else.

So, as the submissions have decreased dramatically over the past year or so, these toughies may become even more tough.

No way, it has been that long?
  • Is looks like Zardoz has decided to sell each of these individually now. It will be interesting to see how the tough ones go.
