Has anyone dealt with Harlin J Berk?

I haven`t dealt with this firm before and asking because I just came across this site recently. I have a few holes to plug in my Whitman Folders and was just wondering what experiences anybody has with them. I`m sure thier fine and I wanted to know anybodys experiences before I make any commitments towards buying anything.

Edit to add: this is the site I`m refering to - http://www.harlanjberk.com/

  • I have bought bulk minor World Coins and World silver from Berk. Good service and a great mix of coins in both batches.

  • I've only dealt with them a couple of times but I was very happy with the transactions. He also has some high powered talent working for him. You should have no problems.

A+ dealer, a bit high on his prices, but being in downtown Chicago I can see why!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

I met Harlan at the Pittsburgh ANA and had a chance to talk to one of his main coin people, Tom DeLorey. Very professional group. Tom knows a lot about a lot and has been around the industry for better than 30 years. I imagine Harlan has been around that long if not longer. Very reputable people in my opinion.

  • Thanks everyone!image I sensed they where fine and when I come across a new site, I usually use caution before commiting.

Check out the shop if you get the chance. Not only do they have a wide selection
but they have items you won't see outside a museum.

Bad customer service. Never responded to an inquiry I made regarding a coin on his website.

Try again - did you call them? Never had any such problem here.

Great people, good selection. As others have mentioned, Tom DeLorey is extremely knowledgeable. The only problem I sense with this company is that a large storefront in the Chicago Loop is a greater overhead than most dealers have to pay. Still, they have managed to meet their expenses for a long time.

I've never dealt with them, but have heard many many good things about them and never anything bad. I was aat a trade show just today in Chicago and almost stopped there. It's funny that this thread was here when I got home.

I bought a raw $5 Indian from them and sent it to PCGS. It came back body bagged. 3 months after I bought it Harlin J Berk still gave me my money back.

  • Harlin J Berk is a first class operation. They do not intentionally inflate grades or overly hype their wares. They stand-by their offerings.

If you are ever in downtown Chicago, it is definitely worth the effort to visit their shop. It is a very diverse operation with many antiques and ancient coins also available. Very helpful and friendly staff. Much more to offer than appears on their internet site.
