Large cent grade?

I'm going to be sending in this 1806 cent this week...care to take a guess at the grade? Sorry for the goofy pics...the coin's surfaces are nice and smooth. I'll post the actual verdict when I find out.

  • I don't think I see any wear on that piece, weak strike and I'm not sure about the color. 64 because of the slightly off-center/weakness

It's not MS, since there's a bit of rub in the hair. I'll say AU-50.

Color / surfaces don't look quite right to me - I'll say BB for questionable color.
  • What's going on with the rim on the left side from 7 to 11 O'clock?
  • I agree with the pug dog. The rim looks kinda wavy to me, like a series of slight, tiny dings or flat spots up one side. If it's not perfectly round, it may be coming back in a bodybag.

  • It may not be damage perse but rather irregularities on the planchet or some other mint made error
  • Look at about 10 o'clock on the reverse above the ST in STATES. Looks like a flat spot there to me.

    I agree with CCU. Recolored.
  • Sharpness 35-40.Leaves are separated but not much detail.Surfaces look burnished and color is funny.

Most likley BB,but I have seem some amazing things slabbed in early copper.

Sorry, but its definitely not an original coin. The surface color is not right, also looks to have had some smotthing over work done on the surfaces.

IF it grades (that's a big IF), I'll say AU-55.

  • A very large number of early copper coins have been recolored. From the pics, the coin looks like it may have been one if them. It might be a good idea to get a hands-on opinion from a copper expert before submitting to PCGS as they will not slab recolored copper. ANACS will net grade recolored coins if a slab is required. If the coin is original it could be a high end AU. Nice bold strike for an 1806!!

    bent & straightened, burnished & recolored. eac net-grade f-15, pcgs no-grade, anacs net-xf

this coin has been heavily worked over, which fine if you know what your getting. realistic value is about $500.

I think it would look really good in an album!

Perfect coin for an album, not so good for submitting.

AU+ details, looks like some corrosion was removed from the left obv, maybe some smoothing there and at "states", and the whole thing fairly well recolored.

coin looks good at arms length, I'll bet!

    Album!
