Saint Gaudens Registry Set..new picture

I just logged on yesterday for the first time. Here is my Saint set...I have dedicated waaaaay too much time to this! Took a lot of my $$$ out of the stock market...certainly a great vehicle for OCD!! But I'm not complaining. Someone email me when the market hits it's high in the next ten years. Any comments??

A most, most, MOST impressive set! Beautiful, and I imagine a very good investment. Congratulations to you for your perseverence. This set looks like it will be historical!

Thanks. I had it pedigreed a few months ago...I figure that it will take me about two years to do what I want. The stuff I need is mucho dinero, though. I have no intention of finishing, since I won't buy anything graded lower than a ms64...no 1921, 1927-D. But 96% will satisfy me.image

    Comments?

    Sure.

Great sounding set. Would love to see pics. Who cares if it is not complete!

It would be nice to get that 1921, 1930-S and 1932 so at least you have a complete date set. Just a thought. Boy would love to see that 1909!

Second, Nicole class of 2017 Princeton. A legacy?

Geez, in 2013, that 1929 Saint won't even be enough to pay for the books the way those book prices are exploding! Give her the whole set while you are at it!image

I'm working on the pics..being new I'm not sure how to do it, but the 1909 is quite remarkable. I'd like to put it up. As for the dates you mentioned, I'm tapped right now...there is a 30-S ms66 in Heritage auction...that should bring close to $200K!!! The 1932's are just hard to find. If I found a 65 I'd grab it.

As for Nicole I'm hoping that the coin triples by the time she is ready to go to college. Of course, I'm counting on an academic scholarship!!image

And give them ALL to her...yeah RIIIIIIIIIGHT!!!! That's my "get out of jail free" card!image

We all collect what we can afford and should be proud. I look at the SD set in Saints and I drool...and he's my best coin buddy!!....hell 40 years ago I marched from bank to bank with my blue folders filling in pennies...and thought I was a KING when I got one. Keep doing what you are doing.

    Curtis,

There is not a coin worth collecting that is insignificant.image

WOW!!! The first time posting of pics is tricky...Here is my 1909 ms66...POP4. I like it!!image
    image
  • imageHas a little green hue to it. I did pickup about $150 in value but got stuck on a 24 that was cleaned. Traded the 24 for 42 Merc.proof. Will not be buying raw gold again. It has to be in PCGS slab.

My oh my, what a treat!

I like the 1909 especially but that 1931 is no slouch. Luster in both looks very much undisturbed.

    Showing off. Nah.

Now we all can enjoy them.

But of course, Nicole, most of all! image

Curious what your MS-67 ones look like. I have been disappointed in the MS-67 ones I have seen.

The 67's have a finish unlike any other coins...perfect surfaces...swirling colors...orange peel...sharpness like a new coin...there IS a differene. What is interesting is that the early date 67's are not quite as "new" looking , but are technically extraordinary. One of my frustrations is a rare 10-S ms66 that is as flawless as any in my set...but it is a tad shy on lustre...I think it would be a 67 if it has even the slightest amount of flash.

    OK a ms67...in a common date of course...imageimage

No I'm just jumping around the net looking at coins I can't afford. But would love to have. And bidding on a feww that I might be able to afford. First here then eBay the Teletrade. Normal Sunday afternoon and evening. But again nice pictures.
  • Posting for Saintguru: some extremely large, high-quality (warning dail-uppers!) images. A jaw-dropping coin indeed!

I wish someone could tell me why this 1908-S is a 65....if all my 65's looked like this I would do cartwheels!! Tried 4 times for a 66 and I'm not DONE!!
    image
  • orevilleoreville Posts: 12,024 ✭✭✭✭✭
Saintguru: The reverse ----the surface of the sun has some chatter, also some minor chatter on the reverse but quite minima. The reverse a tad lower end than the obverse but extraordinarly high end 65.

I do not know why it is not a 66, but it is real close call to me. Ask the pros on this one.

I have to tell you that every one I showed it to agree with me...with ONE exception, my second mentor David Akers...now I would usually stop right there, but since he has 2 of the 3 ms67's I wonder????

Ryan Carroll convinced me to crack it out and it's so strong I did and still got a 65. He was the "whiz kid" finalizer at PCGS until Heritage grabbed him.

Geez: David Akers was the one pro I REALLY was thinking of.
